The past month, since moving in, has been a busy one – moving and getting settled. The Humphrey’s House has been made very cozy. We have pictures on the walls and the little touches that make a house a home. The mild winter has helped buy us time to get a few things tightened up including some of the gaps around doors, to help with this “drafty old house.” It isn't really that drafty, we only call it that in reference to George Bailey’s description of their house in It's a Wonderful Life.

January has been back to the grind for this "weekend warrior" builder. I had taken a good bit of time off to get the house ready to move in, so catching up with the 9 to 5 has not left much time to get stuff done on the Humphreys House. Adjustments have been made and the the honey do list I have may be the envy of no one, but I enjoy the challenge of all of the small projects.

I have mentioned in recent weeks that fixing up a century-old house is something you never actually finish.  Facing what many may consider an overwhelming amount of small items to be done, it is important to focus on one area and work till it is done; for us it is the family bathroom.

A family of five with a teen and pre-teen will get a lot of use out of a bathroom. Getting that room done-done is an obvious priority. The old space heater is no longer needed, so removing that and patching the hole will create a little wall space for a needed towel rack. In addition to the drywall point up, sealing the tile of the shower walls, and a little bit of trim – all done before the kick-off of the big game, makes for a great productive weekend.
