The Bona Style: Preakness – Festival of Fashion

The Bona Style on ShoreBread - Fashion Column by Melissa Bona

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Preakness at Pimlico Race Track. It is pretty cool that if you live in Maryland you have access to be able to attend this race. When you are at Preakness there are different ways you can experience it, either in the infield or the grandstands. The infield is more of a festival-type atmosphere and the grandstands and tents are more about the actual race—betting and being seen with the ‘who’s who’ of Baltimore.

My friends and I decided to buy tickets for the infield because Maroon 5 and Wiz Kalifa were going to be playing in concert. We figured that this would be a cool way to see the concert and be a part of Preakness, knowing we were going for more of that festival vibe and chill atmosphere.
I am so into summer festivals and concerts so this was a perfect mix, and I was laying out in the sun listening to music. It was the perfect way to kick-start summer! (This is the city way start summer, much like the Memorial festivities this weekend are the official start to summer at the beach). We packed food, chairs and blankets to sit on, to relax and party all afternoon. My friend Shannon was a rock star and reserved a great spot early since I was driving in from the beach that day.
The best part about being in the in field is seeing what everyone is wearing, from today’s new version of the 70’s vibe which I call ‘Trust Fund Hippie’ to ‘New Prep,’ it was all about the clothes! There were also those people who wanted to make a big statement and did with one WOW piece! I am totally obsessed with street fashion and what everyday things people put together, so this was so much fun for me!
With summer approaching take a look at the best of the best outfits form Preakness 2012 and get inspired so that when you attend your next summer festival or concert you can rock it out in style!
Fashionably Yours,

Melissa
