It’s hard to believe that Memorial Day Weekend has come and gone already! It seems as if once the warm weather hits, time seriously flies. May is coming to an end and June is quickly approaching with a mass of summer events in tow. We’ll be presenting you with all of the June events later this week, but for now, let’s focus on the weekend events that will round out the month of May here on Delmarva. There’s a beer festival in St. Michaels, BBQ in Snow Hill, Ravens celebrations in Ocean City, and much, much more…

Native Plant Celebration

When: Thursday, May 28; 5pm to 7:30pm

Where: Pemberton Park

What: The Lower Shore Land Trust invites you to join them at the Pemberton Park Education Building this Thursday evening to learn how to grow the best quality plants for your pollinators by saving your own native seeds. Mark Gormel will speak, educating attendees on how he was able to successfully establish the pollinator program at the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford, PA. Reservations are suggested, cost is $10.

Pig & A Jig BBQ Festival

When: Friday, May 29 & Saturday, May 30; 4pm-10pm (Fri.) & 10am-8pm (Sat.)

Where: 5761 Worcester Highway, Snow Hill, MD

What: BBQ, beer and live entertainment…need we say more?? Snow Hill is kicking off BBQ season in style with the 3rd annual Pig & A Jig BBQ Competition. What started as an amateur competition is now a KCBS certified BBQ cook-off, attracting some of the best BBQ-ers in the area. Also included in the two-day event are amusement rides, vendors, and a People’s Choice Wing Competition. But our favorite aspect of this event is that it’s intended to raise money for kids! 100 percent of the money raised goes to benefiting local schools.

NVL Beach Volleyball Tournament and Clinic

When: Friday, May 29 – Sunday, May 31

Where: 3rd & 4th Street beach in Ocean City, MD

What: ‘The Soul of Beach Vollyeball’ hits the beaches in OCMD this weekend, with three days of professional and junior beach volleyball tournaments. The three-day event will feature a 16-team draw per gender with teams competing for a $75,000 prize purse. Stop by and enjoy pro matches, juniors tournaments, and clinics with the pros. General admission is free. Hours are 9am-6pm Friday and Saturday; 9am-5pm Sunday. Men’s finals will be held Sunday at 2pm, with the women’s finals at 3:30pm.

Baltimore Ravens Roosts Annual Parade

When: Saturday, May 30; 10am-noon

Where: Boardwalk in Ocean City; Inlet to 27th Street

What: The Ocean City boardwalk will be a veritable sea of purple this Saturday, as over 50 member roosts from Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania show their pride for the Baltimore Ravens. The two-hour parade will include players, cheerleaders, mascots, bands, floats and more!

Touch a Truck Day in Downtown Berlin

When: Saturday, May 30; 10am-noon

Where: Stephen Decatur Park

What: The Town of Berlin will host its 2nd Annual Touch a Truck Day this Saturday at Stephen Decatur Park. A variety of vehicles will be on display for kids to explore, including the electric, public works, water resources, police and fire trucks and cars. Free information and activity books will be available for kids ages 6-12. The Berlin Police Dept. will also host a K-9 demonstration and the Electric Dept. will be demonstrating how to be safe around electricity. This is a free event, with hamburgers, hot dogs, and ice cream available for sale.

Movies in the Park – Fern Gully

When: Saturday, May 30; 7-9:30pm

Where: Stephen Decatur Park

What: Berlin hosts its second FREE movie night, with Fern Gully on the outdoor big screen at 7pm in Stephen Decatur Park. Bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy the movie!

Pooches in the Park

When: Saturday, May 30; 1-3pm

Where: Lewes Canal Front Park

What: Bring the pups out to the Lewes Canal Front Park this Saturday for a FREE afternoon of dog-friendly fun. Dogs and their owners will be treated to demonstrations throughout the afternoon including obedience, agility, massage, acupuncture, dock diving, and Law Enforcement K-9 demos. Vendors, games, photos and prizes will also be featured. Dogs must be on a 4-6 foot non-retractable leash; one dog per handler.

St. Michaels Brewfest

When: Saturday, May 30

Where: Three locations: The Crab Claw Restaurant, Town Dock, Eastern Shore Brewing Co.

What: Over 70 beers from will be featured in their year’s Brewfest, including one-offs, seasonals, collaborations, and casks. Local, regional and national brews will be available from over 40 different breweries, along with live music and delicious local cuisine. Spend the day enjoying a wide sampling of beers then stick around to enjoy all that St. Michaels has to offer.

Ride Across Maryland

When: Saturday, May 30; riders depart at 8:30am

Where: Columbia to Ocean City

What: The Ride Across Maryland Foundation will embark on their annual ride to Ocean City this weekend, starting in Columbia and ending here at the beach. The motorcycle ride aims to raise money to support families dealing with cancer. Interested in riding? The event begins at the mall in Columbia from 7am until 8:30am, with riders departing at 8:30. Riders can also depart from wherever/whenever they like, joining the pack as it moves south to Ocean City. Both Saturday and Sunday, the Francis Scott Key will be host to several events and demonstrations. Check out the full schedule by clicking here.
