Summer is officially here! Well, at least it will be as of Sunday, June 21. It’s certainly felt like summer this week, with temperatures topping out in the mid-90s. But we are NOT complaining after the long, cold and notably snowy winter we had. Bring on the heat! With the heat comes some cool summertime events across Delmarva, with several happening this weekend. From bacon festivals to beach cleanups, live music in the park to Jaws on the big screen, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this weekend. Take look at what’s happening near you…

Summer Solstice Beach Cleanup & Kiddie Surf Lessons

When: Friday, June 19, 8am-10am

Where: 35th Street in Ocean City, MD

What: Our friends at the Ocean City Surf Club will partner with Crazy 8’s and K-Coast to clean up the beach this Friday, rounding out the cleanup with an hour of kiddie surf lessons. The event, which coincides with International Surf Day, will start at 8am with a one hour beach cleanup followed by kids surf lessons from 9am until 10am.

3rd Friday – Downtown Salisbury

When: Friday, June 19

Where: Downtown Salisbury

What: You’ll find us in Downtown Salisbury Friday evening! We’ll be bouncing around the town all day Friday for work, culminating our day with a little fun at 3rd Friday! This month’s theme is Mystery Flavor, with a showcasing of mystery writers, ghost hunters, interactive art projects and more! Of course, we’ll be stopping in the Tony Weeg Photography Studio to pay a visit to Patti Backer as she showcases her whimsical artwork. Breeches Buoy Rescue Re-enactment

When: Saturday, June 20

Where: Ocean City Inlet, 10am

What: The Ocean City Museum Society, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Indian River Life-Saving Station Museum, and the Town of Ocean City invite you to join them on the beach Saturday morning for this free, educational event. You’ll get a unique chance to relive the rescue of a 19th century ship’s crew using breeches buoy. The breeches buoy was used during the 19th century to bring passengers to safety from wrecked ships. The event will also feature a 21st century sea rescue by active duty Coast Guard personnel as well as rescue technique by the Ocean City Beach Patrol.

Dancing Under the Stars

When: Saturday, June 20, 8pm-11pm

Where: Sturgis Park, Snow Hill, MD

What: Snow Hill’s ‘Arts on the River’ is bringing back the popular Dancing Under the Stars event this Saturday in celebration of the Summer Solstice. From 8pm until 11pm, enjoy live music in Sturgis Park. 33 1/3 will be performing their mix of classic rock, soft rock, and a bit of county. Tickets are $10 and include one free drink ticket. The gates and full bar open at 7:30. This is a rain or shine event, in the event of rain, the fun will move indoors to the Old Firehouse on Greet Street.

58th Annual Old Timer’s Day – Classic Car Show

When: Saturday, June 20, 9am-4pm

Where: Church Street in Selbyville

What: “Hots Rods in Hospice” kicks off Saturday, June 20 in Selbyville, DE with cars, tractors, and emergency vehicles from 1979 and older. The Bo Dickerson Band will be playing, with a community yard sale and a collection of vendors on the scene as well. There is also plenty of fun for the kids, with fire truck rides, pony rides, a moon bounce, arts and crafts and much more! The day’s events will benefit Delaware Hospice.

Maryland State Firemen’s Association Convention

When: Sunday, June 21 through Wednesday, June 24

Where: Ocean City, MD

What: The Maryland State Firemen’s Association will return to Ocean City this month, with their annual convention for Maryland Fire Rescue Service at the Ocean City Convention Center. The events are open to the public, with exhibits available Monday through Wednesday. The annual parade will roll through town on Wednesday at 1pm with equipment, bands and floats.

Seacrets Bacon Fest

When: Sunday, June 21, noon-4pm

Where: Seacrets, 49th Street OCMD

What: Love Seacrets? Love craft beer? Love bacon? If you answered yes to any of these questions (and you should) then mark your calendars for the Jah-Bacon Brew Fest. The event is $35 in advance and $40 at the door and includes a selection of different food items all featuring bacon. Local breweries will also be in attendance, including Evolution, Burley Oak, DuClaw, Dogfish Head and Fordham & Dominion. Ticket includes bacon-centric eats, 10 drink tickets for tastings (two tickets equals one pint of beer), and a souvenir pint glass.

Jaws

When: Sunday, June 21, 2pm

Where: Fox Sun & Surf Theatres, Ocean City, MD

What: It’s hard to believe, but it’s been 40 years since Jaws hit the big screen. The iconic movie is returning to theaters for the occasion, with a special showing at Fox Sun & Surf Sunday at 2pm. Not sure if I would follow this up with a night swim in the ocean…

Father’s Day
