World-renowned decoy carvers, pork wars, premiere wines, a field day for grown ups, and the area’s best Bloody Marys?!? This weekend is going to be a busy one on Delmarva! Spring finally seems to have sprung on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and across Southern Delaware, and just in time for some of our favorite area events! Boardwalkin’ for Pets, Earth Day Celebrations, Pork in the Park, Oxford Day, and WineFest at St. Micheals are just a few of the events you should be considering this weekend. Spring Restaurant Week

Earth Day

When: Friday, April 22

Where: Everywhere!

What: Earth Day is Friday, April 22, which means area organizations and local businesses will be celebrating Mother Earth with educational activities and events. Enjoy programs at Cape Henlopen State Park, Assateague Island, and Pocomoke River State Park, as well as activities hosted by local businesses such as the YogaVibez 108 Sun Salutations in the Park event or Urban Nectar’s Recycled Art Show. Friends of the Library Bi-Annual Book Sale

When: Friday, April 22 (10am-4:30pm), Saturday, April 23 (10am-4:30pm), Sunday, April 24 (1pm-4:30pm)

Where: Wicomico Public Libraries

What: The Friends of the Library of Wicomico County will host their bi-annual Book Sale this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It’s a great chance to stock up on summer reads and books for all ages at a great price (most books will be under $2). You can also take advantage of the Bag o’ Books sale on Saturday and Sunday (starting at 2pm) – load a Friends of the Library bag of books for just $15.

Ward World Competition Carving Competition

When: Friday, April 22 – Sunday, April 24

Where: Convention Center, Ocean City

What: The most prestigious competition of contemporary wildfowl art will return to the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City this weekend, bringing carvers and visitors from around the world. Activities include judging, benefit auctions, classes and seminars, demonstrations, children’s activities, and exhibitor booths. There’s also a Kids Corner featuring kids activities and crafts. Bug & Bud Festival

When: Saturday, April 23, 9am

Where: Downtown Milford, Mispillion Riverwalk

What: The 13th annual Bug & Bud Festival will bring 8,500 visitors to historic Downtown Milford this Saturday for the town’s celebration of Arbor Day, the City of Milford’s designation as a Tree City USA, and Milford’s role in the ladybug’s designation as the State Bug of Delaware. The community event will feature vendors, food, live entertainment, and more! Nature booths, a children’s art show, the shipbuilders river race, chalk art contest, pizza eating contest, free paddle boat rides…there’s plenty to enjoy at Milford’s 13th Annual Bug & Bud Festival!

Pork in the Park

When: Saturday, April 23 & Sunday, April 24

Where: Winterplace Park, Salisbury

What: Pork in the Park is back and better than ever! Food, entertainment, BBQ competitions, an Inflatable Park…there’s something for everyone at this annual event. This year, enjoy Balloonville, the Eastern Shore Wing Competition, Pork War, and more, including a Pet Parade and a Pet Look-A-Like contest on Sunday. For more details, click here.

Boardwalkin’ for Pets

When: Saturday, April 23, Registration starts at 8:30am

Where: Boardwalk, Ocean City

What: Dog owners, Saturday is looking sunny and beautiful in OCMD, which means it’s the perfect time to grab your pooch and participate in the annual Boardwalkin’ for Pets fundraiser for the Worcester County Humane Society. Contest and prizes, there’s even a Cutest Cat Photo contest! Friday night, enjoy the pre-party at Adolfo’s on 13th Street in Ocean City. Tickets are $15 per person ($20 at the door) and includes a meal of your choice: chicken parmesan, spaghetti and meatballs, or eggplant parmesan. Delmarva Birding Weekend

When: Thursday, April 21 – Sunday, April 24

Where: Across Delmarva

What: The annual Delmarva Birding Weekend celebrates the warblers, shorebirds, waterfowl, and raptors that call the Delmarva peninsula home. Each year, participants enjoy boat trips, paddling treks, and hikes to spot the neo-tropical warblers that are passing through our region. Novice and experienced birders are welcome and are encouraged to remind local businesses that they are here to enjoy Delmarva’s natural areas and the birds that inhabit them. WineFest at St. Michaels 

When: Saturday, April 23 & Sunday, April 24, noon – 5pm

Where: St. Michaels

What: The WineFest at St. Micheals is a premiere, international wine tasting event that is held each year in the picturesque town of St. Michaels. Hundreds of highly-rated international, U.S., and Maryland wines will be available at tasting venues located throughout the town of St. Michaels. Oxford Day 

When: Saturday, April 23,  8am – 3pm

Where: Oxford

What: Celebrate small town living, history and heritage, and all that Oxford has to offer during the 22nd Oxford Day! Food, wine tastings, dog shows, games and activities, live entertainment, plant sales…it’s a full day of fun in the small waterfront town. Field Day for Grown-Ups

When: Field Day for Grown-Ups, 2pm

Where: Burley Oak Brewing Company

What: The Burley Oak crew invites you to gather three of your friends for a throwback to the glory days of field day…but with a few adult twists. Teams can register anytime on the day of the event from 2pm until 4pm or in advance at burleyapparel.com. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door and includes all the 2-ounce samples you can responsibly consume and three hours of games and competitions. Don’t feel like participating? No problem, join the fun as a spectator from 4pm until 7pm. Field Day Games will include a water balloon spoon race, hula hoop musical chairs, 3-legged race, dodgeball, and leap frog, to name a few.

Ocean 98’s 10th Annual Best Bloody Mary Contest

When: Sunday, April 24, 12pm-3pm

Where: Morely Hall, Seacrets

What: Ocean 98 will host  their annual Best Bloody Mary Contest this Sunday, celebrating ten years of choosing who has the best Bloody Mary in the area. This is a 21-and-over event with a $10 donation at the door. All proceeds will benefit the Ocean 98 Cash for College Fund.
