Culinary delights await patrons with palatable appetites—Ocean City’s Fall Restaurant week, when many of the areas most celebrated restaurants, offer discounted prix fixe menu selections—begins October 2nd.
The concept of a fixed price menu provides diners with more bang for their buck—this year’s menu options are $10, $20, $30, and $40. In some cases, patrons can try restaurants they may not have previously considered, thanks to the more affordable pricing. For those who are used to gastronomic pleasures, the prix fixe options are an opportunity to dine around Ocean City—a culinary tour de force.
Restaurant Week lasts from Sunday, October 2nd through Sunday, October 16th. New this year, some restaurants will offer Bonus Bites and Beverages—even more ways for diners to save. These selections may include a discounted dessert, wine flight, or signature cocktail.
Participating Restaurants include The Shark on the Harbor, Jules, Galaxy 66 Bar and Grille, Micky Fins, and Waterman’s Seafood, among many others. Waterman’s is offering an appetizer, complete lobster bake, with a lobster, shrimp, clams, mussels, potatoes, cole slaw and dessert for $30. Fall Restaurant Week happens during one of the most enjoyable times of year. Often referred to as the “second season,” fall means the crowds have gone, the traffic is significantly lessened, and many locals venture out to favorite places they have missed since spring. Restaurant Week provides the perfect reason for those who reside in Ocean City and the smaller outlying towns to socialize again.
For those coming from out-of-town, visiting Ocean City in the off-season is a chance to explore the areas beyond the beach. Harbor Day on the docks takes place Saturday October 1st in the commercial fishing harbor in West Ocean City. The festival celebrates Ocean City’s heritage as a fishing town. In addition to the festival, visit the harbor any day of the week to watch the process of the commercial fishing ships packing out—unloading of the fish just caught at sea—and on their way potentially, to being the main course at a table during restaurant week.
The smaller historic towns of Berlin and Snow Hill are just a short drive from Ocean City. Berlin is a 19th Century Victorian town with numerous antique stores, shops featuring handmade goods by local artisans, a glass blowing studio, several art galleries, a museum showcasing the history of the town, and horse and carriage rides. Snow Hill has lovely shops and notable art galleries.
Assateague Island offers the beauty of state and national parks, wild horses, trails, kayak, paddle board, canoe and bike rentals. Celebrate the beautiful weather of fall with outdoor adventures in the nature.
Ocean City’s Lifesaving Station Museum showcases the history of the town, from her earliest days when the boardwalk was a series of wooden planks that were rolled up at night and during high tides, to the bustling resort Mecca she is today. See some of the former boardwalk oddities like Laughing Sal—whose unique and boisterous laugh still echoes decades later.
Restaurant Week offers more than just the opportunity for culinary delights at very reasonable prices—certainly that’s the big draw, but while here, take the time to explore the history, the outlying areas, and the beauty of coastal life.
