SomePAWdy grab a bone because National Dog Day is right around the corner! If you’re a dog-lover like a lot of us here at Shorebread, get your tails ready because on August 26, 2018 the Eastern Shore is rounding up the hounds to celebrate one of the best days ever to exist: National Dog Day!

If you’re an owner of your four-legged companion or just love dogs in general, we brainstormed some great ideas on ways to prepare and celebrate pooches on the Eastern Shore on National Dog Day:

Go on a lunch date with your fur-baby!

Go to a local event supporting dogs!

There are plenty of fun events coming up this season that are pet-friendly including Doggie Swim on September 8, at Mumford’s Landing; The Waggin’ Tail-Gate Party on September 9 at Macky’s Bayside Bar and Grille; as well as Sunfest to celebrate the end of the Summer Season in Ocean City, MD!

Visit a local shelter!

There are TONS of Humane Societies and local shelters dispersed throughout the Eastern Shore! If you’ve been thinking about owning a dog, adoption is the way to go! Some shelters include Wicomico and Worcester County Humane Society, Baywater Animal Rescue in Cambridge, MD as well as Eastern Shore SPCA in Onley, VA! Dogs always deserve a loving family and home.

Treat your four-legged companion to a gift!

There are various pet-stores on the eastern shore and who doesn’t love grabbing some customized gear for their fur-baby? If you’re looking to pick up some toys, treats, and some possible fashion items for your pooch, some shops include: Paws & Claws in Ocean City, MD, Fenwick Pet Shop in Fenwick Island, DE, and if you’re an online shopper, be sure to check out Zany Pet Shop for some fun and wacky items for your pup!

Go to the beach before summer ends!

Before we know it, summer will come to a close so be sure to go to take your pup on a mini vacation to a pet-friendly beach! You are bound to find a pet-friendly beach on the Eastern Shore, just be sure to check out the beaches rules and regulations before entering. To name a few, Assateague National Seashore, Downs Memorial State Park, and Bayfront Park welcome dogs with open paws!
