Winter is in full swing on the Eastern Shore and it's not stopping anyone from getting out and being social. This weekend, the Ward Museum is offering fun and educational activities that will entertain anyone, especially those into nature. Salisbury will be hosting their monthly 3rd Friday evening that showcases local art and music. The Dorchester Center for the Arts has a new exhibit in their gallery, too. Swanfall

The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art (909 S. Schumaker Drive) in Salisbury, MD will be showcasing Swanfall this weekend.  Swanfall is an exhibit featuring carvings, painting, and artifacts that explore the natural and cultural history of the swan. These beautiful and graceful white feathered creatures have unique mating, migrating, and evolution patterns.

The exhibit is located in the Welcome Gallery at the museum. Photography from Swanfall: Journey of the Tundra Swans, written by Salisbury University professor, Tom Horton, and photographed by David Harp, will be visible. The exhibit will be displayed through February 5th. The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art is open Monday – Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm, Sunday from 12 -5 pm.

Saturday morning, from 10 am – noon, children can participate in nature-related activities at the museum. The planned projects are related to art, nature, and local culture and are suitable for all ages. The ancient art of ‘fish printing’ will be explained and attendees will have a chance to make their own painting. All activities are free and open to the public.

Also on Saturday, Tom Horton, Salisbury author and professor will lead a field excursion around the museum on Saturday afternoon. From 3 –  5 pm, Horton will be discussing the natural history of tundra swans. Warm beverages will be provided to guests. 3rd Friday
Gear up and get out to Salisbury, MD on Friday. 3rd Friday in downtown Salisbury starts at 5 pm. A variety of talented local artists will set up shop on East Main Street in downtown Salisbury to display their art, sell their hand-made goods, or exhibit their photography. The event is free to attend, which leaves no excuses for not hanging out and having a good time with friends and family. During the warmer months the festival is held outside, during the winter, it’s all inside. Dorchester Center for the Arts
The Dorchester Center for the Arts in Cambridge, MD will be open to the public and showcasing artwork from Eastern Shore locals. Paintings by Faith Lord will be displayed along with work from Walt Schumacker, Rina Thaler and Edward Eckert. All artists are from the coast: Ocean City and Rehoboth Beach areas. The Center for the Arts (321 High Street) is dedicated to increasing access to the arts for all members of the community by supporting extensive outreach and educational opportunities. Support local artists and art history by visiting the Center for the Arts to see this new exhibit. The exhibit will be on display until January 29th.
