What's happening this weekend on the Eastern Shore? Plenty – that's the answer. A huge boat show will take place in Ocean City. Birders will be looking towards the sky and walking through your neighborhood tallying birds. People will be checking out beautiful artwork and live music in downtown Salisbury. History will come to life at the Poplar Hill Mansion on the banks of the river in Salisbury, too. Sound like fun? Time to get social on the shore…

Seaside Boat Show in Ocean City
 
Ocean City’s Roland E. Powell Convention Center will be filled with boats during Presidents Day weekend. The 29th annual Seaside Boat Show takes place Friday, Febuary 17th – 19th and will be sponsored by the Ocean City/Berlin affiliates of Optimist Internationals. More than 350 boats will be on display and 140 exhibitors will be showcasing their latest and greatest boating related items. Admission to the show is $9, or $15 for an all-weekend pass. All proceeds generated are put towards youth and community service programs. The Optimist Cub sells tickets to a drawing that funds several college scholarships for Stephen Decatur High School seniors.
 
Great Backyard Bird Count across Delmarva
 
The Great Backyard Bird Count is scheduled to take place February 17th – 20th. This bird count can be conducted from your backyard, by looking out your home’s windows, or my walking through your neighborhood with a birding tally sheet. Participants, who can be anyone in the area, are asked to record and report the highest number of each bird species seen together at one time. A regional bird checklist is available from Birdsource, a sponsor of the Great Backyard Bird Count.
 
3rd Friday Arts Night in Salisbury
 
Gear up and get out to Salisbury, MD on Friday, February 17th. Third Friday in downtown Salisbury starts at 5 pm. A variety of talented local artists will set up shop on East Main Street in downtown Salisbury to display their art, sell their hand-made goods, or exhibit their photography. The event is free to attend, which leaves no excuses for not hanging out and having a good time with friends and family. During the warmer months the festival is held outside, during the winter, it’s all inside. Free Tours at Poplar Hill Mansion
 
The Poplar Hill Mansion in Salisbury will be open for free tours on Sunday, February 19th.  The mansion was built as the manor house of a farm outside of Salisbury during the 18th century. The most recent addition to the living space occurred in 1732. The 4-story home overlooks the Wicomico River. From 1 – 4 pm the home will be open to the public.
