February is a busy month for being the shortest month of the year. At the beach, we typically look at February as a rather grueling month, what with the cold weather and the interminable longing for the month of March and the first signs of spring. We’ve found that the best medicine for wintertime blues is staying busy, and fortunately we have a calendar full of Delmarvalous events all month long. For starters, it’s President’s Day Weekend – the first true tourism draw of the year for our resort towns. The weekend includes Valentine’s Day events and specials, the Seaside Boat Show, Prom Night in Berlin, the Hi-Tied Gala in Pocomoke…the list goes on and on. The rest of the month brings exciting happenings as well, including the 4th Annual Oyster Roast in Snow Hill and the Wild and Scenic Film Festival in Ocean City. Friday, February 7

  • A Night in the Spotlight:

The Believe in Tomorrow inaugural prom night fundraiser will be held this Friday, February 7 at Hooters of West Ocean City; starting at 7pm. Tickets are $20 per person and include the following:

  • Free drink (with your high school prom photo)
  • Upscale buffet including a carving station, pasta and assorted appetizers
  • Champagne Toast, sponsored by Park Place Jewelers
  • A Prom King and Queen ($1 per vote)
  • Music by DJ BK

Tuesday, February 11

Pino’s Vino Club presents a romantic evening of chocolate cuisine. The event begins at 6pm and you must pre-purchase to attend (call 410-524-8202 or e-mail info@ocfrescos.com). The cost is $45 per person and includes the following: chocolate dusted sea scallops with vanilla butter and arugula; roasted parsnips vanilla and white chocolate soup, chocolate pappardelle with walnuts and cream, pepper crusted beef tenderloin with chocolate port sauce and molten chocolate cascabel volcano.

February 14-17

  • Brown Box Theatre presents, Two Wrongs:

The Brown Box Theatre returns to town for their latest performance, “Two Wrongs.,” a contemporary story about two young, neurotic patients in analysis, trying to discover where they go wrong in relationships. The play will be held at the Ocean City Center for the Arts on 94th Street in Ocean City, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For tickets and information visit brownboxtheatre.org.

  • Prom! at Zenna Wellness:

Berlin MD Arts & Entertainment proudly presents Prom Night at Zenna Wellness Studio. The event is part of Berlin’s 2nd Friday Art Stroll. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $5. All donations will go towards Berlin MD Arts & Entertainment. Berlin Arts & Entertainment is composed of a unique group of individuals, all seeking to give historic Berlin an identity as a vibrant cultural hub for both the visual and performing arts. Funds raised go towards promoting art in Berlin, events, public art projects and more. The first annual prom will include food donated by Waterman’s Seafood, a photo booth for capturing epic prom photos, and awards for best handmade accessories. Did we mention that the event is 80s inspired?! Singles and couples are welcome, ages 21 and older.

  • Seaside Boat Show:

The Seaside Boat Show returns to Ocean City for its 31st year. The #1 boat show on the Eastern shore boasts 350 boars and over 140 exhibitors, including 50 boat dealers.   • Oyster Garden @ Fager’s Island:

Slated for Saturday from 1pm to 5pm, The Oyster Garden at Fager’s Island is a celebration of locally raised oysters paired with regional craft beers. Representatives from five local companies will be on the scene, shucking their oysters while sharing oyster stories with guests. This is a great opportunity to sample oysters while learning about the oyster movement here on the Shore. The event will also include BBQ ribs and chicken, as well as entertainment from  Bobby and Darrin from Opposite Directions. Tickets are $30 and include all-you-can-eat and unlimited beer samples.

  •  Hi-Tied Gala:

Join the Pocomoke Boat Docking Association for the Hi Tied Gala, to be held at the Elks Lodge in Pocomoke. The event is a fundraiser for the 2nd Annual Boat Docking Challenge that is set to take place in August 2014. The event is formal/semi-formal and will include dinner, live and silent auctions and live music from Virginia Beach’s top dance band, Hotcakes.

  • Death by Chocolate:

Enjoy this free, fun game in Ocean City. Contestant can pick up their game card at any of the participating merchants to start playing. Each merchant will have a clue at their store which will help you to complete your game card. Fill out you card while enjoying special discounts and free chocolate treats. Clues are easy and for all ages. Submit your complete card at Sunset Grille no later than 6pm and enjoy a great evening at Sunset Grille. Make your reservations for dinner under “Death by Chocolate” and receive a free entrée after your purchase of an entrée and an appetizer.   • Wild and Scenic Film Festival @ Seacrets:

Join the Assateague Coastkeeper and the Assateague Coastal Trust at Seacrets for the 3rd Annual Wild and Scenic Film Festival. The Wild and Scenic Film Festival is a collection of films from the annual festival held the third week of January in Nevada City, California. Everyone who attends the event will receive a free membership to the Assateague Coastal Trust. Show times are 2pm and 6pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

Sunday, February 23

  • 4th Annual Oyster Roast

 The Snow Hill Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the Third Annual Oyster Roast from 1pm until 5pm. The celebration of all things oysters will occur at the Old Firehouse on Green Street. Secure yourself a wristband and enjoy the all-you-can-eat event. Oyster stew, oyster casino, oyster Rockefeller, Malibu oyster, single friend oysters and roasted oysters are just a few of the oyster delicacies that you will be enjoying.
