It’s that time of the summer that we all look forward to, or at least we here at ShoreBread do.
The ginormous Delaware State Fair opens to the public July 17th for 10 straight fun-filled days. The annual fair highlights the heritage of the Eastern Shore, with a heavy focus on agriculture. For us, the Delaware State Fair means country concerts, funnel cakes and mechanical bull riding, along with parking out in the middle of a field, tractors and sweet tea.
The fair costs right around $9.00 for adults and $4.00 for children, with ages 5 and under free.
The fair offers country concerts almost every night, attractions, petting zoos, an insane amount of food trucks and carnival rides. This year, the fair is welcoming Keith Urban on July 22nd, Brantley Gilbert on July 23rd and July 26th Lady Antebellum. Friends and family tailgate in the parking lot before the show while the horse race track is transformed into a country power house.
In addition to the big headliners, there are free concerts nightly showcasing local artists as well as different derby shows and rodeo roundup competitions. Walk through the different livestock houses to see all sorts of farm animals such as dairy cows, pigs and goats. They even offer competitions for a goat milking contest! The farms all around the Eastern Shore train their livestock year round to compete. One of our favorites is the chicken house where you can pick up and play with baby chicks.
The Delaware State Fair also hosts several indoor arts and crafts tents that showcase unique goods and gifts – we typically duck inside to get a break from the heat!
With activities, competitions and concerts at all hours of the day, it sure makes your trip to Harrington, DE totally worth it. Don’t forget to feed the giraffe!
