How are we already at August?! We are seriously thinking about boycotting the end of summer… time just seems to fly these days with event after event happening each and every week. Obviously, August proves to be no different. July was a great time… full of fireworks, great weather and late nights but with a host of great events, August is notsosecretly our favorite month of summer. We find the events to be a teensy less crowded than July (because the kiddos are heading back to school). I mean where else can you see a massive 16th Century ship and an 80-pound white marlin in the same day… the Eastern Shore, duh. Without further ado… let’s check out what’s going on during this last glorious month of summer.
Berlin Peach Festival
Each year during the first weekend of August, locals and tourists flock to the Taylor House Museum and Main Street to celebrate Berlin’s heritage and all things peach. This year the festival is scheduled for August 2nd from 11AM to 4PM with a rain date of August 3rd. The Taylor House Museum is proud to announce that they will have over 33 vendors this year with 19 of them selling crafts, 8 of them offering foods and baked goods and 6 demonstration vendors. It’s a favorite event of ours, see you there!
Blessing of the Combines
Snow Hill is known for their deep roots and dedication to heritage. The Blessing of the Combines is their 16th annual celebration to welcome the harvest season. Festivities will begin on Green Street at 10:30 with live music and fun activities. The parade of the combines begins on Rt. 12 to Green Street at 11:15AM. Other fun activities will also involve a petting zoo, a hay ride and a tractor pull.
OC Tall Ship Event
El Galeon, the 16th Century vessel replica war ship, is coming back on August 1st to Ocean City with plans to be docked in our resort town for an entire month. The ship was very popular during its first visit last August and it will be docked again at the Bayside Pier between 3rd and 4th streets. It will be open to the public for a whole month starting August 1st and leaving the docks to head to its next destination on September 1st.
White Marlin Open
It’s definitely the most exciting fishing tournament of the year, for both Ocean City and the entire East Coast. Boat crews up and down the East Coast are anticipating the start of the 41st White Marlin Open. This year, there are over 300 boats coming from as far as Florida and New England. Prizes are huge, totaling more than 2 million dollars. It is officially starting August 4th and the weigh-ins will take place at Harbor Island in Ocean City, MD on 14th Street. The weigh-ins are typically every day of the tournament between 4PM and 9PM. The tournament will go until Friday, August 8th.
OC Beach Classic Ultimate Frisbee Tournament
Calling all ultimate Frisbee players and fans! The OC Beach Classic Ultimate Frisbee Tournament will take place on Saturday, August 9th until Sunday, August 10th on Somerset Street Beach. The time will be from 9AM to 5PM. Watch these amazing athletes go head to head, while diving in sand to win the competition. Talk about some serious entertainment.
Sunset Park Party Nights
Located in a beautiful location on the bay in downtown Ocean City, Sunset Park hosts talented performers from all over the state for the public’s entertainment. Best part about it? It’s free! Sunset Park is located along South Division Street between Philadelphia Avenue and the Bay. Beer is available for purchase and all the money goes to the youth programs in Ocean City. What better way to enjoy the sunset and a beautiful night then by hearing some great music and relaxing.

Free Movies on the Beach
Continuing with their summer series, Carousel Resort Hotel will still offer free movies on the beach at 118th street in uptown Ocean City. Each week, a G-rated movie will be played on a huge projector overlooking the ocean. The movies usually start around 8:30PM and last around two hours.
August 6th: The Lego Movie
August 13th: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
August 20th: Finding Nemo
August 27th: Planes
From August 18th until the 22nd– Master Champion sand sculptors come into town and create giant sand sculptures along the beach all the way from North Division Street to 4th Street. Directly after that from August 23rd to the 24th, their artwork is displayed and they have interactive activities for younger children. Some of these activities include sand art contests, sculpting lessons and photos. These pieces of art will remain on display until the beginning of September.
Labor Day Weekend Art & Craft Festival
Starting on Friday, August 29th the Convention Center on 41st Street will host the Annual Labor Day Weekend Art & Craft Festival. Each day from 10AM to 5PM you can experience all things crafty. There will be unique gifts and household items, including oil and watercolor paintings, woodworking, furniture, stained glass, candles and pottery. We’re calling it a mini Sunfest!
So let’s soak up these last few weeks of the summer sun before the leaves start changing colors, the air gets chillier and our Sundays are spent inside watching football. Happy August to all of you!
