The holiday season continues on Delmarva as we gear up for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. One of the first things to decide is where to celebrate, and with so many of our local towns hosting celebrations, it’s going to be a tough decision. Several Eastern Shore towns are planning to celebrate by hosting their own versions of the Times Square ball drop. We’ve compiled a list of our local countdown celebrations, from the beach to the bay and back again. Happy New Year!
Berlin: In America’s Coolest Small Town, Main Street will be overflowing with party-goers looking to celebrate the New Year. The celebrations begin at 10pm, with MC’s Big Al Reno and Dave Miller entertaining the crowd. Food will be available at all of the local restaurants, but also in the streets, with stations set up by Crush and Crab, Kettle Korn, Main Street Deli and Rosenfeld’s Food Truck. The ball will drop at midnight in front of the Atlantic Hotel, followed by free hayrides to Burley Oak Brewing Company for live music by Muskrat Lighting. Burley Oak will also be open until 4am on NYE. See you all on Main Street in Berlin!
Salisbury: In Downtown Salisbury, the NYE celebrations will be centered around Headquarters Live, where Bonedaddy’s will be rocking the stage all night long until the ball drop at midnight. The City of Salisbury will sponsor a fireworks display shortly after to be held over the marina. What’s more, Pohanka of Salisbury will be giving away a two-year lease on a brand new Volkswagen! Food vendors will be on site as well, including Big Al’s, Berks Hot Dog Food Truck, Main Roots, Mama Mia’s Food Truck, The Polish Connection Food Truck, Big Thunder Roadside Kitchen Food Truck, and Phat Boyz Food Truck. Doors open at 8!
Easton: Talbot County celebrations will be headquartered in Downtown Easton for First Night Talbot 2016. The evening of family-friendly, arts-related fun will take place at The Academy Art Museum, The Avalon Theatre, and the Waterfowl Festival building. Music, juggling, magic, crafts, dancing and more will fill the night until the Crab Drop at midnight.
Ocean City: The Town of Ocean City will celebrate the New Year with a fireworks display at Northside Park. The display begins at midnight and will be accompanied by live music, hot chocolate, and of course, the Winterfest of Lights! Of course Ocean City’s bars, restaurants and nightclubs will all be host to their own NYE celebrations….stay tuned for our follow-up article!
Dewey Beach: Dewey Beach and the Dewey Business Partnership are hosting a New Year’s Eve Ball Drop at New Orleans Street and Route One. The festivities start at 11:30pm. And don’t forget about the Dewey Dunk on New Year’s Day at Dagsworthy Beach!
Bethany Beach: Bethany Beach will host their first annual Beach Ball Drop this year, with festivities set to start at 10:30pm. Open to the public, the event will be held along the boardwalk and will include hot chocolate and coffee, party favors, Ocean 98’s DJ Magellan, music, and a countdown to the beach ball drop at midnight. Or dress to impress and join the Black Tie Ball at 99 Sea Level before watching the ball drop.
Of course there are PLENTY of other events, celebrations, specials, and activities happening on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, but hopefully these will get you started as you set your own plans for ringing in 2016. No matter what you choose, we hope all of our readers are safe as they celebrate New Year’s Eve on Delmarva. Happy New Year!
