Smoker’s BBQ Pit

9711 Stephen Decatur Highway, West Ocean City

410-213-0040

http://www.smokersbbqpit.com/

OK, so this is admittedly a wild card in the lineup, but now that Smoker’s BBQ Pit is open again, we know of several moms who are just as excited as we are to get their fix from the West OC hotspot. If the weather is nice, place a take-out order and treat mom to a picnic at her favorite spot, whether it’s the beach, a park, or her recently landscaped backyard (hint, hint dads). Selections on the menu are varied, with everything from smoked salmon chunks, to fried chicken, to pit BBQ sandwiches. Of course the sides are a meal within themselves…as is the homemade banana pudding!

Starboard RAW

2000 Coastal Highway Unit 102, Dewey Beach

302-227-9000

starboardraw.com

In Dewey Beach, there’s a new contender on the block, The Starboard Raw. Located across the street from The Starboard, it’s the perfect place to take the mama who loves oysters, craft beer, and seafood. The raw bar is stocked with a variety of oysters, including Chincoteagues, Tomboys, and Rip Tides. Of course there are plenty of oyster shooters as well, along with raw clams, and a sampling of steamed items. On the regular menu you’ll find smoked oysters, clams casino, crab pretzel, and Sussex County fried green tomatoes, to name a few. The cocktails and craft beer menus are equally as tantalizing, with plenty of options for your deserving mom to kick back and enjoy.

Blue Moon

When Delaware Magazine heralded Blue Moon as the ‘Best Brunch’, we had to taste for ourselves…and we certainly weren’t disappointed. For Mother’s Day, brunch will run from 10am until 2pm with $5 signature Bloody Mary’s and $5 mimosas. The brunch menu is brimming with delicious options, including the Smithfield Pit Ham Steak, with includes scrambled cage free eggs, hash browns, and Vermont cheddar fondue. The Bread Pudding French Toast showcases fresh bananas, toasted almonds, banana custard, Vermont maple syrup and smoked bacon. For the veggie loving mama, there’s the Veggie Scramble, which includes a healthy mix of green onions, zucchini, tomato, goat cheese, hash browns, and baby greens. The morning is complemented with entertainment by Pamala Stanley.

If the weather cooperates, taking mom for a stroll (paired with a little shopping of course) through Downtown Rehoboth is the perfect way to spend the day. We also suggest making plans to dine at Summerhouse, which will be offering both a brunch buffet and an a la carte brunch menu. The brunch buffet will be available from 10am until 3pm and is $24.95 for adults and $12.95 for kids. The buffet menu includes homemade soup, salad, fruit & yogurt, spinach & artichoke dip, artisan cheese display, crab deviled eggs, bacon & sausage, homemade quiche, creamed chipped beef, pancakes, crawfish etoufee, Scottish salmon, grilled asparagus, a carving station with ham and prime rib, and Maggie’s pastries & desserts. Jimmy’s Kitchen

Route 1, Fenwick Island

For the no muss, no fuss mama that just wants to be treated to breakfast and then left alone for the rest of the day, we suggest hitting up Jimmy’s Kitchen in Fenwick Island. It’s one of those beloved breakfast joints that serves all your favorites with a good, strong cup of coffee. The friendly, family-style restaurant is a local’s favorite for a reason, so if you haven’t been, be ready to add it to your list of go-to breakfast joints!

 The Crab Bag

www.thecrabbag.com

Because nothing says I love you like an epic crab feast! Another excellent option for this year’s Mother’s Day is a family outing to The Crab Bag for all-you-can-eat crabs. Their steamed crabs are consistently heavy, packing the sweetest meat and arriving with fries, corn-on-the-cob, and cole slaw. There are other feast options as well, which include ribs and wings. That’s not all, their menu is massive, with sandwiches, appetizers, entrees, and more, so there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
