Public service announcement: today is National. Grilled Cheese. Day!!! The very best grilled cheese sandwiches are made with three key ingredients that our doctors would normally insist that we stay away from, but we think even they would give us a pass in order to celebrate this glorious day! For best results, begin your super-duper grilled cheese sandwich with a hot cast iron skillet, two slices of bread, cheese and butter, but don’t stop there! Have you ever considered adding extra ingredients to your grilled cheese sandwich to ‘spice’ things up a bit? Below are a few suggestions that we find rewarding. The possibilities truly are endless so let yourself go, have fun with it!

Classic Bacon & Tomato: Add three slices of crisp bacon and one slice of ripe tomato to your classic grilled cheese sandwich.

Triple Cheese: Let’s be honest, cheese really is the crown jewel of the perfect grilled cheese sandwich, so do it right. Go for three: cheddar, muenster and Swiss cheese, please!

Spicy Nacho Sandwich: Load two slices of white bread with Monterey jack, American cheese, and cheddar cheese plus pickled jalapeno slices. Go the extra mile and add 1 tbsp. crushed corn chips to the mix!

Grilled Ham & Cheese: For this grilled cheese, we like to use bread with a thicker slice, like a sourdough or a country wheat. Select your favorite sliced ham and pair with either provolone, Swiss or cheddar cheese.

Pesto & Tomato: Spread pesto on one slice of white bread and add layers of provolone cheese, mozzarella cheese and one slice of ripe tomato.

Swiss Mushroom Grilled Cheese: The key to this jazzed up grilled cheese sandwich is the Thousand Island Dressing that you spread on two slices of rye bread. Next, fill your sandwich with Swiss cheese, sautéed mushrooms and onions. Perfecto!

Sun Dried Tomato: No need to worry about preparing sun dried tomatoes for this heavenly sandwich. Simply visit your local bakery for sun dried tomato bread and fill with your favorite ingredients. Our version includes provolone and mozzarella cheeses.

Waffle Sandwich: The classic grilled cheese waffle sandwich usually includes cheddar cheese and bacon, but feel free to substitute with breakfast sausage patties. Be sure to serve with warm maple syrup for the full effect!

Pizza Sandwich: Using thickly sliced Italian bread, spread marinara on each side and then fill with 1 slice provolone cheese, 2 large slices of pepperoni, and 1 slice of mozzarella cheese. This one can be cooked in either butter or olive oil. Take it one step further and add garlic to your butter or olive oil!
