Last week I wrote about getting ready for the beach with your key essentials and beach needs. This week I started thinking about the most crucial piece of being beach ready – getting fit! Let’s face it, we all decide about 3 weeks before Memorial weekend that we are going to start getting fit and working out. The problem with this is that you can’t change your body in 3 weeks, but hey, better late then never.
For the past few months I have been working out more and trying to eat healthy but I wasn’t giving it my all. It wasn’t until I was watching a re-run of friends that I decided that I was wasting time watching a TV show that I have seen a million times rather than doing something to better myself. Working out and eating healthy has always been a struggle for me, I mean I am Italian and we bleed pasta sauce! But I decided that I was going to change my lifestyle; not diet but really just change how I eat. Borrowing a quote from my friend, “eat less, move more.” So thats what I decided to do.
Blue & purple workout tanks by Champion. Available at Target. $12.99 – $26.99
I realized that I am the type of person that needs to go to the gym. I like the option of taking classes, and the social aspect of it. Yes, I am supposed to be working out, and trust me I am working hard, but a little eye candy does help motivate you while you are there. I signed up at Power House Gym in West Ocean City. They have an amazing class schedule including yoga, spinning, Zumba and kick boxing, just to name a few. When you sign up they immediately schedule a personal training session to decide on your fitness goals and they have an on site day care for that busy mom on-the-go. To me it was the perfect fit along with the fact that it is also very affordable. I do suggest checking their website out and trying a 7 day free trail. What do you have to loose?
I am sure you are thinking as you are reading this, what does this have to do with fashion? Well in my journey to get fit you didn’t think I wasn’t going to look cute doing it, did you? When you are just getting started it is important to invest in workout gear that fits you properly, shoes that are comfortable, and pants and tops that you look and feel good in. You’re not going to give it your all if your feet hurt, or if your top is not supportive.
Black workout pants by Champion. Available at Target. $21.99. Available in petites, too.
Not everyone can afford Nike’s latest “IT” item, so do what I did. I invested in 2 basic black workout pants that were flattering, so I can wear one pair while the other pair is washing. Also find a great fitting top and get it in a few colors along with a basic black. I wanted dark colored tennis shoes so I decided to go to Famous Footwear in West Ocean City and bought a super cool pair for under $60! You don’t have to break the bank; you can start off with one of everything and build as you go.
Nike Alvord 9 sneakers. Available at Famous Footwear. $59.99.
My favorite place to get the latest look at super affordable prices with workout gear that has some of the technical elements like Nike or Under Armour, is Target! Check out some of my favorite finds so that you look fashionable in everything that you do, even working out! Single ladies it is also a great place to meet guys! If that isn’t motivating I don’t know what is!
Fashionably Yours,
