Fooducate is a mobile app that directs users to ‘eat a bit better’. This foodie app can be used as a ‘diet without a diet’ as it encourages users to make healthier food choices.

How does it work? Open the app on your iPhone or Android, scan a food product barcode, see what’s really inside of the product, and select healthier alternatives if available.

Fooducate has over 200,000 individual UPCs in its product system. The wide variety of products makes it easy to scan an item at the grocery store, and then select the product that is healthiest.

This app was featured in Oprah’s O Magazine, the NY Times, WSJ, and Lifehacker. It was also featured on ABC, FOX, NBC, and other networks.

On the Fooducate site it says,

“Fooducate is like having a dietician on speed dial…”

Fooducate allows you to see the stuff in your food that manufacturers don’t want you to notice. Check the list below for items you should be aware of:

  • Excessive sugar
  • Trans fats
  • Additives
  • Preservatives
  • High fructose corn syrup
  • Food colorings

This app not only scans items, but it also provides nutritional information, alternative food suggestions, social networking share abilities, comments from other users, and recommended shopping lists.

Download Fooducate in the App Store for Apple products; also available for Androids.
