Summer’s days are numbered but that doesn’t mean it’s time to hide in doors yet! If you’re still looking to take part in local excitement, Pocomoke City has a host of events waiting for you.

At 3:00 this Saturday, September 14 the Chamber of Commerce at 6 Market Street is hosting a poetry reading by Archita Buch and Robin Butler. Buch and Butler comprise half of the poetry group that wrote Making Waves: 4 Voices. The inspiration for the book comes from the influence of the four poets’ writing on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The first hour will feature poetry readings while the second hour spotlight a question and answer session with the writers, as well as book signing. RSVP to speak with the poets from the other part of the Shore.

Wednesday, September 18 at noon Don’s Seafood is hosting a General Membership Luncheon. Be sure to RSVP to get the best seats in the house at one of Pocomoke’s favorite places to get authentic Eastern Shore cuisine. Although the “course of true love never did run smooth,” it doesn’t mean it wouldn’t make a great play.

If you’re a Shakespeare fan, like theatrical drama, or just enjoy free, outdoor events, come out Friday, September 20 on the corner of Market and Front Streets to see Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The event starts at 7:00 P.M. and is free to the public. Although the performing company Brown Box Theatre Project hails from Boston, the projects founder is from the Eastern Shore.

Wednesday, September 25 from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors Band is playing a free concert in Cypress Park. Enjoy this inspiring performance showcasing Jazz, Patriotic, and Big Band music played by our troops. Make sure to bring blankets or lawn chairs to relax in the musical environment. Come out and show the Shore what you’ve got.

Thursday through Saturday, September 26-28, at 7:00 P.M. the Mar-Va Theatre is hosting Delmarva’s Got Talent. Offering cash prizes, this is one competition you don’t want to miss. New this year are youth and adult divisions. Tickets are sold at the door for $10.00 or a triple ticket package for all three nights of $25 dollars.

Saturday, October 19 at 10:00 A.M. the Costen Art Show is taking place in the Delmarva Discovery Center with free admission. This event is a fundraiser for the Costen House, home of the first mayor of Pocomoke.

Feeling crafty? Pocomoke’s got you covered. On Saturday, November 3 the Pocomoke Chamber of Commerce is presenting the Christmas Arts and Crafts Festival at the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Community Center, 1410 Market Street. With a $2.00 admission, you can take part in artistic and fun crafts from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

There are enough fun activities in Pocomoke City to make your head spin. If this list didn’t fill your calendar yet, visit the Chamber of Commerce website to see what else is going on. There’s so many events, as Jennifer Rafter, Executive Director of the Pocomoke Area Chamber of Commerce said, “there’s no way to go to everything.”
