Roses are red, violets are blue, need a great date for your Valentine? We’ve got one for you!
Whether you are planning a romantic getaway, fancy dinner, or something a little easier on the wallet, we have uncovered plenty of date ideas planned around the Shore.
Valentine’s Weekend at the Cambridge House Bed and Breakfast
Since Valentine’s Day is on a Friday this year, why not continue to celebrate the holiday for the entire weekend at the romantic Cambridge House Bed and Breakfast. This cozy B&B practically oozes Cupid’s charm from its red hued exterior to its Valentine’s Day extras. In the spirit of the holiday, when you enter one of the six guest rooms, you will find candelabras, flowers and gourmet chocolates waiting for you. Also, most of the period-decorated rooms are fitted with electric fireplaces to help add to the romantic atmosphere. The hotel will also make a dinner reservation for you to enjoy in one of the many delicious restaurants in town. Spend your days eating, shopping, and touring historic Cambridge or relax in the beautiful gardens, porches and hot tub of the Cambridge House.
Dinner for two at Market Street Inn
If you are looking for a lovely dinner to impress your date with, take your valentine to Market Street Inn. This fine dining establishment has been a place that ShoreBread loves to visit and this weekend would be a perfect time to go. Located right on the water in Salisbury’s downtown, the restaurant provides terrific views and a European pub atmosphere. Also, the restaurant is featuring a delicious four-course dinner for two. The offer includes two appetizers, salad and bread, two entrees or entrée salads, one dessert to share and two non-alcoholic beverages.
Round trip to Sobo’s for Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras
Whoa who else realized these two holidays were only four days apart? This Friday enjoy a four-course champagne dinner with your sweetheart with options like cream of crab soup, Ahi Tuna stack, Thai calamari, apple orchard salad and for the main course pick from Seared Sea Scallops, Grilled Filet Mignon, Half Stuffed Lobster and Balsamic Roasted Chicken. Of course no dinner would be complete without a dessert for a finale.
After you have had a few days to digest your gourmet meal, come back to Sobo’s on February 18 for their Mardi Gras event. Celebrate with your friends over various food and beverage pairings such as a Cajun salad and a featured white wine, a shrimp pork empanada with a N’Orleans Hurricane and southern bread pudding and a king cake martini.
Dinner date at Evolution Craft Brewing and a walk through Salisbury University’s Art Gallery
A restaurant that you can find ShoreBread frequenting often is Evo, which has a great alternative vibe that we have noticed in many of the other local breweries on our Beer Tour. We come to Evo for their unique craft beer flavors and essences but we stay for their excellent food. After our delicious dinner perfectly paired with a tasty beer, we suggest you and your date make a quick trip down the road to Salisbury University’s Art Gallery, located in Fulton Hall. For a limited time you can view the exhibit “Colors and Things” featuring artists Nathan Green, Allie Rex and Mary Anne Arntzen. These artists have put together a collection of vibrant abstract pieces such as models and paintings, some of which are painted directly onto the gallery’s walls. This colorful ending to your date will perfectly compliment the funky atmosphere of Evo.
Poetry reading in Chestertown
For a Valentine’s Day treat that is definitely for parents only, we suggest you visit the Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre for an erotic poetry reading and the show “A Little Touch of … Shakespeare.” Although this event may sound like a new phenomenon, it is actually part of the 11th Annual Erotic Poetry Festival. “A Little Touch of … Shakespeare,” is directed by Patrick J. Fee with scenes adapted by Chris Rogers. This play is a conglomeration of 10 of Shakespeare’s plays and five of his sonnets that portray an entertaining alternate view of the playwright’s work.
Third Friday in Salisbury
If cupid’s arrow did not strike you this year and you are looking forward to post-February 14 events, the Third Friday event on February 21 in Salisbury is waiting for you. This week, the list of activities involve an array of artists. In the Powell Building, on the Plaza, jewelry, and fine art can be found including art by Jason Wharton, who is inspired by automobiles of all shapes and sizes. Also in the Gallery Building, the Art Institute and Gallery will host the 2014 Blooming Artist Showcase where local young artists will have their works displayed. This exhibit is one of the largest shows done by the Art Institute and Gallery, so don’t miss out! To end your downtown journey, stop by the Salisbury University Art Galleries: Downtown Campus exhibit of Palette, a showcase of food art. This Third Friday event will be the closing reception of the exhibit, which means lots of tasty treats to go along with the edible arrangements on the walls.
