As the weather warms we like to get outside as often as possible for a good run, walk or jog. What’s even better is when we get to combine our outdoor adventures with a good cause. The Eastern Shore is host to a number of truly worthy walk/runs over the next few weeks, all with the aim of raising funds for deserving individuals and organizations. Check out a few of the upcoming events:
Kisses for Colby 5k & 1 Mile Run/Walk: March 29 @ 9am
Join OC Tri-Running and Team Colby Saturday, March 29 for a fun morning of exercise and fundraising for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS). Colby is a four-year-old Ocean City girl who has been battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia since she was diagnosed in January 2013. Colby was quickly dubbed the “warrior princess” amongst family and friends for her valiant strength against this terrible disease. Colby’s friends and family are joining together once again to help raise funds and awareness with the “Kisses for Colby 5k”. All funds raised will go towards the LLS. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Pharmacy’s Student Government Association will hold their 2nd Annual 5K Strides for Epilepsy run or walk on Saturday, April 19 at 9am at the Salisbury Park. Last year saw over 100 participants, 16 sponsors and over 30 volunteers, which resulted in over $2700 raised for epilepsy research and awareness. All proceeds will benefit Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy and United Needs and Abilities.
Island 2 Island Half Marathon & 5k: April 26 @ 7 am
Ocean City and OC Tri-Running celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Island 2 Island Marathon on Saturday, April 26th. The uber-popular event returns with some significant changes this year. The 13.1 mile race will start in Assateague and end at the Inlet in Ocean City, rather than the other way around. The post-party will be held at the Inlet parking lot, with food, refreshments, live music and an awards ceremony. Once again this year, the race will benefit Worcester Youth and Family Counseling. Walk the entire length of the Boardwalk or walk to 12th Street and back. Refreshments will be provided at both 12th and 27th Streets.
