Well, after months of hearing everyone longing for summer, it’s finally here. While temps may not be in the 80s or 90s yet at the beach, Memorial Day Weekend serves as the official summer kick-off every year, with thousands of people pouring into Ocean City to enjoy their holiday weekends. Whether you choose to spend the weekend relaxing, working, or jamming in as many activities as possible, we at ShoreBread ask that you take the time to remember and honor those brave and honorable men and women who died while serving in the US Armed Forces. It’s not about bar specials or barbeques, it’s about honoring those we have lost. Having said that, it doesn’t mean you can’t get outside and enjoy the Eastern Shore while you’re at it. We’ve rounded up a few options for your holiday weekend, from dancing the night away at Seacrets to enjoying the natural beauty of Assateague Island. Happy Memorial Day everyone!
Lights show in OCMD – Patriotic themed laser show

Old Fashioned Memorial Day – Berlin
Berlin will honor Memorial Day with their Old Fashioned Memorial Day celebration on Monday, May 26. The day begins with Color Guard Salutes at the local cemeteries at 9am, followed by a parade from Stephen Decatur Middle School to Flower and Bay Streets, starting at 11am. The day will also include vendor booths, activities for children, yard sale tables, gospel singing, food and more.
Jolly Rogers at the Pier, Speedworld, Mini-Golf at 30th
Jolly Rogers may not have their waterpark open yet but that doesn’t mean the amusement park haven isn’t offering up all sorts of fun alternatives. Speed around the tracks at Speedworld, hop on the rides at the pier, or try your hand at a game or two of min-golf. For family fun, Jolly Rogers is definitely the way to go this Memorial Day Weekend.
Assateague
While many people think of Ocean City, Dewey Beach and Rehoboth when they make their Memorial Day Weekend beach plans, one of our favorite places to spend the holiday weekend is at Assateague Island. Whether you’re going stateside or national, going for the day or camping for the entire weekend, Assateague is an ideal setting for an outdoor adventure with family and friends. Beyond sunbathing or surfing, there are kayak tours and rentals, hiking, wild ponies, nature walks and more.
If you’ve ever spent a Memorial Day Weekend in Ocean City then you know Seacrets is definitely the place to be. From open to close the Jamaican-themed bar, restaurant and night club will be teeming with tourists and even a few locals for dancing, drinks, live music, DJ’s, food and more. Did we mention fireworks? Yep, they’ve got those too!
Cowboy Coast
Cowboy Coast will open its doors this weekend, after months of transforming the space that the Paddock called home for decades. We’ve been watching the progress over the past few weeks and are eager to see what the finishing result will be. Being country music lovers, we’re looking forward to the new addition to the resort town. In true holiday weekend fashion, Cowboy Coast is kicking off in style this Saturday with The Electric Rodeo. Join the crew in celebrating the summer season from 12 to 7pm on Saturday. A portion of the event’s proceeds will directly benefit the Wounded Warrior project in an effort to pay homage to the real reason we celebrate Memorial Day, our troops.
