Mother Nature is doing her best right now to both amaze and spook us with her changeable bouts of weather and perhaps push us to stay inside.  But not to worry. If being inside’s your pleasure at this chillier time of year, you will find plenty to delight your senses and kindle those creative urges with all the offerings on tap this month at the Ocean City Center for the Arts. With something for all ages, the Art League of Ocean City has plenty to occupy you from the beautiful to the practical to the “monstrous.”

Kids Pizza & Pottery: Dinner and a movie, too!Enjoy a pizza dinner, then get in the Halloween spirit by making monsters out of clay! This month’s featured film will be Monsters, Inc. Date: Friday, October 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost: $30 for members, $38 for non-members. Includes pizza dinner, clay, firing and supplies. Regular ongoing weekly kids pottery classes are also offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Family Clay Day: Do something fun with the family for the day and come play with clay! Parents and their children are invited to spend the afternoon in our pottery studio. You will be able to complete a project in one day. All ages are welcome to participate, however children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Date: Saturday, October 18 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Adult Pasta & Pottery: Join the Art League this month for a special Oktoberfest class! Enjoy a delicious pasta dinner with craft beer from Burley Oak, and then make a beer stein in our pottery studio. Projects vary monthly, no experience necessary. Date: Wednesday October 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Cost: $50 for members, $55 for non-members. Includes dinner, clay, firing and supplies. You can also arrange for special group parties for your business, club or organization for any of the Pasta & Pottery or Brushes & Bubbly nights.

Landscape Painting with Don Andrews: Only a few spots left! Study with nationally known watercolor artist Don Andrews in a four-day workshop, Oct. 27-30, from 9 to 4 each day. This watercolor intensive will focus on landscapes and will be packed with demonstrations, discussions, individual help, personal and group critiques. Andrews has conducted painting workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Africa for more than 25 years. He has authored instructional art books and magazine articles, produced DVDs and YouTube videos, and has been featured in numerous publications. For artists at all levels. Dates: Monday-Thursday October 27-30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Cost: $325 for members, $390 for non-members.  You won’t want to miss this one! Registration is limited.

Adult Painting Clinics and Special Workshops: Available year round for artists of all abilities in different mediums, day and night sessions.

Adult Figure Drawing, Oil, and Watercolor Open Studios: Improve your life drawing skills, while benefiting from the company of other artists. Bring your own supplies and work in any medium. A monitor will coordinate each session; however, instruction will not be provided. Different dates and times. Cost: $3, members only.

The Art Center and Gift Shop is located at 94th Street Bayside, next to the bright blue water tower.
