You’ve probably noticed by now, but we have an unabashed and undying love for the Combsberry Inn in Oxford, MD. In a word, it’s magnificent, and that’s no exaggeration. We’ve taken a few trips to the waterfront bed and breakfast and each time we find ourselves making excuses not to leave. And what’s not to love? Between the view, the scenery, the impossibly delicious breakfasts and the cozy interior, the Combsberry Inn is truly a place where you can unwind, relax, and let go of the stresses of everyday life…even if only for a night. When we visited in early September, we were able to catch a glimpse of the summer season at Combsberry, quickly envisioning sunset walks on the dock, a bottle of wine out on the patio surrounded by beautiful flowers, and reading a book on the sprawling waterfront lawn. As we transitioned into the fall months, we were eager to get a glimpse of life at the Inn during the holidays. Fortunately for us, Innkeeper Abby Rose filled us in on all of the holiday and winter happenings at Combsberry.
This time of year is the perfect time to visit Combsberry, with a terrific list of specials available. For example, enjoy a weekend in Oxford for Christmas on the Creek while staying at the Inn! Christmas on the Creek is an annual event in Oxford, held December 5-7 this year and includes a host of holiday activities throughout Oxford. Combsberry offers a Christmas on the Creek package (valid from December 5-6th) that will include Friday and Saturday night, with the cost per couple $800 for a suite and $500 for standard rooms. The package includes two tickets to Oxford’s Historic Home Tour, a 2 night’s stay at the Inn, a full breakfast for 2 each morning, and a rubber duck and homemade bath salts. This old fashioned weekend is truly unique. In addition, there is caroling, a visit from Santa, the lighting of the dock trees, concerts, and meals…each designed to create an authentic holiday feel.
Roaring fireplaces, bubble baths, and evenings filled with board games and wine are just a few of the scenarios to expect from a holiday weekend at Combsberry. “We only rent the individual houses for the holidays, therefore families can gather together and have uninterrupted bonding time,” gushed Rose, who lives on the property year round. “All of our houses feature either wood burning or gas fireplaces, Jacuzzi tubs, board games, ample room for cooking a holiday meal or having one catered in, it’s perfect with the sound of geese out on the creek and a deer family grazing on the lawn, it just makes sense.”
Combsberry offers a special rate when you book your stay for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s, known as the Homes for the Holiday’s special. This is for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s stays only, affording you the opportunity to rent out the Main 1730 Manor House, The Carriage House or The Oxford Cottage for your holiday. Each requires a 3 night stay. “It’s great to just gather your family and come celebrate the holidays in one of our homes, the possibilities are endless,” said Rose. The Main House rents for $750 a night complete with a full kitchen, a formal dining room, living room and a library stocked with books and games. The bedrooms include a king-size bed, two queens and a combination of fireplaces and tubs. What’s more, the entire house sits upon a private cove and a sprawling thirty five acre lot. The Carriage House rents for $500 a night and boasts an open floor plan with a kitchen, dining room, living room with a fireplace, two bedrooms (both with Jacuzzi tubs), a large front porch, a private driveway and an excellent view of the water. Last but certainly not least, the Oxford Cottage rents for $300 night, and includes a kitchenette, a spacious bathroom with a tub, living room, queen sized bed and the closest water views on the property. And of course our favorite part – the Oxford Cottage is pet-friendly!
There are endless possibilities for a holiday weekend at Combsberry, from a romantic getaway to a fun weekend with family. From December 21st through January 1st enjoy a stay in the Oxford Cottage, Queen Ann Room or Garden of Eden Room for two nights for $600. “For our fall/winter special – a breakfast basket is delivered to the guest’s cottage or carriage, and will contain fruit, yogurt, fresh baked goods and juice,” said Rose. “There is plenty of tea, hot cocoa and coffee in the houses for guests to enjoy, our baked goods range each day… apple fritters, homemade cinnamon rolls, pumpkin or pear spiced muffins and more.” Typical winter days at Combsberry range from relaxing to being out and about exploring the Eastern Shore towns. “This is pretty much up to the guests discretion, some enjoy going to Easton and St. Michael’s for shopping and dining, others like to stay cozied up in front of the fireplace with a good book,” said Rose.
With the stresses of the holidays creeping in, a weekend stay at the Combsberry Inn is a perfect way to unwind and enjoy the beautiful late fall and early winter weather. We can promise you it is a special place you won’t forget, as you step back in time and take advantage of a much needed, simplistic weekend retreat.
