A snow day and hot chocolate are practically synonymous. There is nothing quite like sitting by the fireplace or even taking a mug with you outside into the winter wonderland, so we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite hot chocolate recipes (with a little help from our Pinterest friends of course). Truth be told, we had no idea there were so many varieties. Take a peek at a few of our favorites…and send along a few of your own!

Nutella Hot Chocolate

The day Nutella met chocolate was a magical one, as it truly is a match made in culinary heaven. It seems like the logical choice then to add a teaspoon of the delicious hazelnut spread to your cocoa.

2 cups of milk

1 heaping Teaspoon of Nutella

Marshmallows or Whipped Cream

Heat your milk in a small saucepan over medium heat. Once heated, add Nutella until blended.

Frozen Hot Chocolate

Frozen hot chocolate may sound like an oxymoron, but when done right is perfection.

¼ cup of cocoa mix

2 ¼ cup of sugar

¾ cup of cream

1 ½ cup of ice cubes

Place all your ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Crockpot Hot Chocolate

Because we like any excuse to use our crockpot…

4 ounces of unsweetened chocolate pieces

1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips

1 can sweetened condensed milk

8 cups of milk

1 tablespoon of vanilla

In your crockpot, combine unsweetened chocolate, chocolate chips and unsweetened condensed milk and mix well. Cover and cook on high for 30 minutes, stirring every so often. Stir in milk two cups at time gradually stirring. Top off with vanilla, cover and cook on high for another two hours.

Eggnog Hot Chocolate

Eggnog is another quintessential holiday drink, so why not create a mash-up of the two?

4 cups Eggnog mix

1 ¾ cups of white chocolate pieces

Melt the white chocolate into the eggnog mix, add a dash of whipped cream or marshmallows and cozy up in front of the fire.

Hot Chocolate Martini

For the classy hot chocolate drinker, take your cocoa up a notch.

3 ounces hot chocolate

1 ounce crème de cacoa

1 ounce Bailey’s Irish Cream

¾ ounce vanilla vodka

After preparing your hot chocolate, combine with the rest of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker (that’s right shaken not stirred) with ice and delicately pour into a chilled martini glass. Voila!

Spicy Hot Chocolate

Some like it hot…and some like it SPICY hot.

4 cups of milk

1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder

½ cup sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

¼ teaspoon of cayenne powder

Combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan and heat over medium heat until ready. Garnish with marshmallows.

Boozy Hot Chocolate

After a rough day of shopping or grappling with the in-laws, you and  your hot chocolate could probably use a little pick-me-up. You can pour just about anything in your mug of cocoa but we suggest Baileys, Kahlua, Peppermint Schnapps or Marshmallow Vodka.

Cheers!
