We’ve made it our mission this holiday season to support local initiatives as much as possible, whether it’s shopping entirely local for our Christmas gifts or giving back to local charities. All year long we try to support our local animal shelters, including the Worcester County Humane Society. The local no-kill shelter may be small but it is certainly mighty, taking in as many dogs and cats as they can handle and working tirelessly to find each and every one of them a wonderful new home. Oftentimes, we hear more about dogs in need of homes, but what about the deserving feline friends out there? In an effort to bring more awareness to the stray cats of Worcester County, the WCHS is hosting the ’12 Strays of Christmas,’ which will highlight some of the shelter’s adoptable cats.
“We have so many wonderful cats who continually get overlooked at the shelter,” said Sandy Summers, WCHS board member and volunteer. “We are trying to get a little more creative with getting more cats adopted and giving them the exposure they deserve.” The ’12 Strays of Christmas’ will run from December 13 until January 5, during which time 12 chosen cats will have a reduced adoption fee of just $25. All of the cats at the shelter, including the featured 12, are up to date on vaccinations and are spayed/neutered. What’s more, look to the WCHS Facebook and Instagram for the next ten days (and for the last two days’ posts) to see the ’12 Strays’ that are being highlighted.
The Worcester County Humane Society is a private, non-profit, no kill animal shelter located on Eagle’s Nest Road just off Stephen Decatur Highway. The shelter is open 11am to 5 pm every day except Mondays.
