With September in full swing, we’re spending lots of time outside, and one of our favorite new hobbies is disc golf! Admittedly, our aim could use some work, and we’re certainly not throwing any hole-in-ones, but with some practice at these Delmarva courses, we’re sure to improve.
Schumaker Park – Salisbury, MD
We love this course because it’s free and mostly shaded. The course covers the majority of the park, and you may have to wait for park goers to move out of your drive line for a few holes. The pond also makes some of the holes particularly challenging.
Trap Pond State Park – Laurel, DE
This course is very scenic, and you’re unlikely to run into many people that aren’t disc golfing. There is an entrance fee to enter the park of $4 per day for Delaware tagged vehicles and $8 per day for out-of-state vehicles.
Tony Silicato Memorial Park – Milford, DE
We love to visit Milford, and it’s nice to be able to pair disc golf with our trips up there. It’s also nice that it’s free!
Cape Henlopen State Park – Lewes, DE
Cape Henlopen State Park is a must visit, with fun trails, lots of history and beautiful views. This course is unique because the holes are difficult (if not impossible) to see from the tee boxes. For those that love a challenge, this is a great course! There is an entrance fee to enter the park of $5 per day for Delaware tagged vehicles and $10 per day for out-of-state vehicles.
Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay – Cambridge, MD
The grounds of the Hyatt Regency are beautiful, and you don’t have to be a guest to play! The course is free to all, and those that are hotel guests are even able to check out discs.
John Walter Smith Park – Snow Hill, MD
This course has little shade, but that also means fewer trees to hit! One of the primary traps on this course is the tall grass surrounding the greens. If your throw needs some work (we’re right there with you), you may want to wear pants and closed toe shoes so you can walk through the tall grass to retrieve your disk. This course is free.
Horse Bridge Golf Course – Salisbury, MD
Horse Bridge is a traditional golf course with disc golf intermixed. This course has 27 holes, and all the standard traps you would expect on traditional golf courses. Since this is a golf course, you can also rent a cart if you choose. There is a fee of $3 per person.
Indiantown Park – Eastville, VA
If you’re headed to the southern area of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, this is a must visit. This course has 36 holes that are heavily wooded, so accuracy is a must. This is a free course.
Wood Creek Golf Links – Delmar, MD
This is another course located along a traditional golf course, featuring traditional traps. Cart rental is available. There is a fee of $3.
