Beebe Healthcare’s Oncology Services and the Sussex County Survivorship Coalition will host a Cancer Survivorship Conference for the eighth year in a row. This inspirational, one-day event has brought many survivors and caregivers together under one roof to share in hope, support, and resilience while on the path to wellness.

“After Ringing the Bell: A Cancer Survivorship Conference” will take place Thursday, January 23, at the Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center, 1 Baltimore Ave, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is offered at no cost, but attendees must register by January 20 via Eventbrite https://afterringingthebell2020.eventbrite.com.

The conference focuses on integrating wellness and growing balance in our lives following the cancer experience. Attendees will be presented with information on how to identify post-treatment concerns as they integrate mind-body practices into cancer survivorship care.

Keynote speakers are:

  • Uday Jani, MD, who will present an illuminating look at how integrative medicine provides cancer survivors with guideposts to achieving health, vitality, and joy, over the course of a lifetime. He’ll explore the unique approach that includes: nourishment, sleep, physical movement, and a path to spirituality and more.
  • Carolyn Trasko, Ph.D., LCSW, CHTP, who will provide an understanding of how the practice of Mind-Body Medicine can be a useful resource to help strengthen the relationship between our mind, and our emotional, psychological, and physical experiences. These relationships offer important clues to help us develop sustainable self-care practices that can truly heal and transform us. Mind-Body Medicine consists of a model of whole-person care that utilizes a focus on mind, brain, body, and spirit to identify and treat illness.
  • Additional speakers will present an array of integrative health and wellness topics.

Vendors also will have exhibits and provide a variety of health and wellness information and resources. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided at the conference.

The Sussex County Survivorship Coalition was formed in July 2011 to coordinate the efforts of the variety of local organizations that traditionally have reached out to cancer survivors.
