A silent auction to benefit the Art League of Ocean City’s scholarship fund is being held at the OC Center for the Arts. Local artist, Peter Cosby, has donated his original oil painting, “Atlantic Light”, to the Art League to raise funds for its scholarship program. This large painting is valued at $6,000. The minimum bid is $2,500 with minimum increments of $100. The auction will close on May 31, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. Dollars generated will go directly to the Art League’s scholarship fund which has been in existence since 1991.
The scholarships benefit graduating high school students who will study in the visual or performing arts. Mr. Cosby’s daughter was a past recipient of this scholarship and it is a beautiful gesture by the artist to provide education funds for another deserving student.
Peter Crosby lives in Berlin and specializes in marine paintings of seascapes and boats. He also enjoys mountain landscapes and waterfalls. Peter has been represented by the Water’s Edge and Waterline Galleries in Berlin and Bishop’s Stock in Snow Hill. His painting, “Atlantic Light”, is inspired by reflected light that is common at sunset over the Atlantic Ocean.
“All my life I have dabbled with painting,” said Cosby. “About 12 years ago I got more serious about painting with the guidance and advice of Lynn Lockhart, Kirk McBride, and Patrick Henry, who generously shared their knowledge about composition, color, materials and marketing.”
