Wild & Scenic Film Festival Returns to Ocean City Friday

The Assateague Coastkeeper and the Assateague Coastal Trust will host the 3^rd Annual Wild and Scenic Film Festival this Friday, February 21^st at Seacrets in Ocean City. With both afternoon and evening shows slated, there are multiple opportunities to head to Morley Hall for the any of the 11 selected films.

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a collection of films chosen from the annual festival held during the third week of January each year in Nevada City, California. The festival is currently in its 12^th year, continuing to focus on films that speak to the environmental concerns and celebrations of our planet. According to Tour Manager Lori Can Laanen, “films featured at Wild & Scenic give people a sense of place. In our busy lives, it’s easy to get disconnected from our role in the global ecosystem. When we realize that the change we need in this world begins with us we can start making a difference.”

This is the third year that the film festival will stop in Ocean City. “We are thrilled to bring the Wild & Scenic Film Festival back to Seacrets in Ocean City,” said Assateague Coastkeeper Kathy Phillips. All attendees will receive a free membership to the Assateague Coastal Trust. There will also be a silent auction and kayak raffle.

This year’s theme is Empowerment, and will include the following selected films:

  • Moonwalk

• Film order for the second half:

  • Two Laps

  • 2:00pm – Welcome and first half of films
  • 3:00pm – Intermission and raffle drawing
  • 3:15pm – Second half of films
  • 4:15pm – Thank you for coming and enjoy half-price dinners at Seacrets!

• Evening Show:
  • 6:00pm – Doors open
  • 7:00pm – Welcome and first half of films
  • 8:00pm – Intermission and raffle drawing
  • 8:15pm – Second half of films
  • 9:15pm – Thank you for coming and enjoy food, drink and music at Seacrets!

The mission of the Assateague Coastal Trust is “to protect and enhance the natural resources of the Atlantic Coastal Bays watershed through advocacy, conservation and education.” With the delicate Delmarva coastal area and its ever changing ecosystem, it is critical that we work as a community to preserve our local way of life. Assateague Coastal Trust was established in 1970 and has continued over the years in their efforts to protect our environment locally at Assateague, as well as for the entire Atlantic Coastal Bays watershed.
