“Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.” General George Patton
Editors Note: Although this app refers to Sports Quotes, don’t dismiss this just because you may not be an athlete. Sports are a microcosm of life. Sports reflects competition and what it takes to win. That transcends athletics; it is life in the real world. But, in a world where every kid gets a trophy and our politicians want everyone to have the same amount of stuff, working hard never became so pointless; except to the great ones.
Now onto the point…
“How do you go from where you are to where you want t be? I think you have to have enthusiasm for life. You have to have a dream, a goal and you have to be willing to work for it.” Jim Valvano
Hey, let’s face it, life is hard. If it’s not, then you aren’t trying. Being the best is even harder. Ever wonder why everyone isn’t the same? Why isn’t everyone “the best?” Why isn’t everyone happy? Why isn’t everyone successful, no matter what that means to each individual person?
It is easy to think that successful people are luckier or know more people or got all the breaks. Maybe it’s human nature to compare ourselves to other people and think that someone more successful than us is just a little luckier. It is hard to admit that maybe they just tried harder, worked harder, put in more time, bled for it, risked it all for it and just wanted it more than we did.

“When I was young, I never wanted to leave the court until I got things exactly correct. My dream was to become a pro.” Larry Bird
Maybe you aren’t 6’6″ and maybe you can’t dunk a basketball, but are you willing to work until you drop on your craft? Are you willing to be a pro?

In addition, remember that we just see the end result. We see the Michael Jordan that was the best player in NBA history. But if we peeled back the layers, we would also see that he got cut from his high school JV basketball team. What did he do? Quit? I think we know what happened since that setback.
So, what’s the point? Here it is… even the most successful people in the world have had setbacks and failures. Failing does not make you a failure; quitting does. And here’s a fact… the best aren’t just lucky; they are relentless. They never quit.
That’s what the Sports Quotes app shows you. It gives the behind the curtain view of what makes the best athletes tick. What makes them the best? Whether it’s Muhammad Ali, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Lance Armstrong or Martina Navratilova, there’s one common theme… PREPARATION. Work, prepare, practice.

“You win not by chance, but by preparation.” Roger Maris

My dad always told me, “Practice doesn’t make perfect; perfect practice makes perfect.”

“The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus.” Bruce Lee
It’s not the most talented that wins, it’s the most determined. It’s the one that leaves it all on the line. It’s the one willing to die for his cause.

And that’s why most of us don’t achieve our dreams. We don’t bleed for it. We say we have what it takes, but we don’t know what that means until we hit the roadblocks. When they happen, we quit. And then we don’t blame ourselves; we blame someone else and just say that the successful ones are lucky. That’s a typical response; it is the easy response. Nothing is easier than quitting and that’s what makes the average person average.
So, when you need a pick me up, or a little motivation or when life punches you in the gut, knocks the wind out of you and brings you to your knees… don’t quit; don’t tap out. Oftentimes, it’s that one decision that separates the wheat from the chaff.
Open the “Sports Quotes” app and see that some of the best athletes of all time were where you may be. They failed, too. As General Patton said in the introduction above, the great ones bounce back.
