The Rehoboth Beach Gingerbread Contest is coming to town on Saturday and Sunday, December 9th and 10th. The contest, held at Epworth UM Church, will include divisions for amateur and professional bakers, and a special division for non-profit organizations. As the contest’s name suggests, entries are not limited to houses. Originality and creativity are encouraged. Gingerbread kits are not permitted.
The Rehoboth Beach Gingerbread Contest welcomes the public and admission is free. Those wishing to enter the competition can find rules and entry forms on the website at www.gingerbreadjoy.org. Spaces are limited so register today! Entry forms must be received by November 1. Participants will be notified of acceptance by November 6. The total number of entries will determine how many entrants in each division can be accepted.
The purpose of the Rehoboth Beach Gingerbread Contest is to raise funds to support those in need. Epworth UM Church has been helping families at Christmas for decades. In 2012, the program was expanded and now supports the West Rehoboth Children & Youth Program, the work of the Cape Henlopen School District’s Homeless Liaison, and the Good Sam program at Epworth. What began as holiday help for families has become a year round life line providing for personal needs such as eye glasses, school supplies, and diapers, transportation and scholarships for youth, and housing assistance.
