Meet a park ranger at Cape Henlopen State Park (42 Cape Henlopen Drive) and participate in a guided tour of the Lewes, DE park. Cape Henlopen has many year-round hiking and biking opportunities. Guests can take advantage of the scenic beach-side landscape while getting a history-lesson by a ranger. The World War II Observation Tower and military bunkers will be open for guests to explore. The Pinelands Nature Trails are the perfect place to experience the serene nature that Henlopen has to offer. If not participating in the guided tour on the trails, the option of hiking 6-miles along the coast is always available!
The Delmarva Discovery Center (2 Market Street) in Pocomoke City, MD will be hosting their annual Winter Wonderland Gala on Saturday, February 4th. From 7 – 10 pm, guests can enjoy hors d’oeuvres from Restaurant 213, two complimentary drink tickets and entertainment by Moonstruck. All winning bids on silent auction and live auction materials will be donated to the center. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased by calling 410-957-9933 or visiting the Discovery Center. If you can’t make the event that night, be sure to stop by the center earlier in the day; locals will receive 50% off admission.
A naturalist will be leading guests through the Pocomoke River State Park (3461 Worcester Highway) on an Owl Prowl this Saturday. As darkness falls over Snow Hill, MD, the forest will be filled with sounds of local birds and nocturnal animals. The guide will direct guests through the loblolly pine forest, past the cypress swamps, and around the Pocomoke River. The exploration costs $3 per person or $10 per family of four. The Heart & Sole 5k Run/2 Mile Walk will be open to runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels on Sunday morning, February 5th. The event, sponsored by Peninsular Regional Medical Center, Avery W. Hall Educational Center (Carroll Street), starts at 9 am in Salisbury, MD. The Heart & Sole is a free fitness event to promote exercise and heart health awareness. Door prizes will be raffled off during the event. A post-race party and refreshments will be located inside of the Avery W. Hall Educational Center.
The Lewes Polar Bear Plunge takes place on Sunday, February 5th in Rehoboth Beach. A group of brave souls will meet behind the bandstand on the boardwalk starting at 10 am. The plunge begins at 1 pm. Celebrating its 21st year; all proceeds from the Polar Bear Plunge benefit Special Olympics of Delaware. After the plunge, starting at 1:15 pm, participants can party at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Snacks and hot beverages will be available. For more information, call 302-832-4653.
The Poplar Hill Mansion (117 Elizabeth Street) in Salisbury will be open for free tours on Sunday, February 5th. The mansion was built as the manor house of a farm outside of Salisbury during the 18th century. The most recent addition to the living space occurred in 1732. The 4-story home overlooks the Wicomico River. From 1 – 4 pm the home will be open to the public. For more information, call 410-749-1776.
