What’s going on this weekend? Glass blowing classes, family fun night, a home-improvement expo, homecoming, and an art show… that’s what. Socially speaking, all of these events will be great. Each event offers enthusiasm and creativity. Get out and get social by attending some events on the Eastern Shore this weekend.

The Ward Museum will be hosting a glass blowing workshop on Friday afternoon at the Salisbury University hot glass studio. From 3 – 6 pm participants can experience the unique thrill of manipulating hot glass. The Ward Museum and the Salisbury University Glass Program are collaborating to bring guests an opportunity to make their own glass art. After a short orientation, participants can work on their own glass piece in the SU facility. Another class is being offered on March 30th from 3 – 6 pm. Registration is required and the cost for the workshop is $40 – $45. The Salisbury University glass studio is located in room 129 inside of Fulton Hall. A Family Fun Night will be held at the Ocean Pines Community Center in White Horse Park on Friday, February 24th. The Assateague Room will be packed with kids, families, games, and activities. Bingo games will be played throughout the night for great kid-friendly prizes. The event starts at 6:15 pm and continues until 7:45. The Salisbury Optimist Club is presenting the Better Living Expo & Craft Show at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center from Friday, February 24th – 26th. Attendees can spend the day perusing a variety of displays while gathering ideas and tips about home improvement projects. Admission is $4 for adults and grants all-weekend access. Children age 12 and under can attend for free. To keep children amused, clowns, jugglers, and other forms of entertainment will be wandering through the center. 2012 marks the 48th year of this event that brings some of the best contractors, builders, innovators, and craftsmen to our area. 
 
It’s homecoming at UMES this weekend. Current and former University of Maryland Eastern Shore students are returning to the shore to participate in the homecoming celebration planned in Princess Anne. UMES holds their homecoming events in February – basketball season. A homecoming parade begins at 10 am on Antioch Church Road and a pep rally and tailgate follow. The women’s ball game starts at 2 pm, men’s at 4 pm. For $20 guests can watch both basketball games.
 
Six Eleven Salon & Gallery in West Ocean City will be hosting an art show on Saturday night, February 25th from 8 – 11 pm. The gallery portion of the establishment will be open to the public. Artwork on display was created by Elvis Lewis of Easton, PA. Lewis is a tattoo artist and friend of gallery owner, Little Chico. The commission from any artwork sold at the show will be donated to a different art gallery in West Ocean City that is in need of community support.
