From the outside, Diakonia appears to be little more than an average West Ocean City home. What you’ll find inside however is a veritable safe haven for those in need. Food, housing and an extra helping of hope are just a few of things offered daily at Diakonia, where men, woman and children – mostly from Worcester County – find transitional housing, a strong sense of community, and a helping hand. Because Diakonia provides a necessary service to our community, we as a community should always be looking for a chance to give back to Diakonia. One such opportunity is this Wednesday, as Diakonia gears up for their 4th Annual golf tournament and fundraiser.

“Once again the community is amazing in supporting the needs of Diakonia as we help others in need of housing, food and resources,” said Diakonia Special Events Coordinator Debbi Anderson this week. Last year, net proceeds from the tournament yielded over $10,000 for Diakonia, and with 30 teams registered for Wednesday’s event, Anderson anticipates net proceeds of closer to $15,000 this year. “It will go a long way to help Diakonia serve those in need in our community,” she added.

The tournament, held at Ocean City Golf Club’s ‘seaside course,’ includes lunch, golf cart, refreshments on the course, tee gift, prizes, hors d’oeuvres during scoring and a cash bar. Raffles, prizes, food and a DJ will all be enjoyed during the awards.
