Along the way in our Eastern Shore Brewery Tour, we’ve uncovered some pretty inventive flavors of locally brewed ales, inspiring us to think of some of our own unique concoctions. With our eyes always peeled for new and interesting brew-centric events, we were thrilled when we heard about the Brew Master’s Competition at Brew River next weekend. On January, 25 at Brew River Bar and Restaurant in Salisbury, any beer connoisseur or ale amateur can enter the friendly competition for a chance to have their own original flavor on display.

The Brew Master’s Competition is challenging participants to put on their thinking caps to come up with creative and original beer flavors. If you are a Dogfish Head Brewery fan this competition is especially great for you as Dogfish Head is partnering in the event. Interested yet? Well then, take a look at the requirements:

–          Contending participants are to first come up with a special beer taste.

–          Select your ingredients as well as which Dogfish Head beer you would use as your base brew

–          Next, decide on a name for your crafty beer

–          After creating your masterpiece, submit your idea to any of Brew River’s social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram or email your idea at info@brewriver.com.

Still not sure? One example given of a beer flavor invention was the “S’mores Galore,” which would be infused with all the fixings of this campfire treat including graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate. The flavor would use Dogfish 90-minute IPA as the base beer into which the ingredients would be mixed.

We got our wheels spinning and thought of a few of our own tasty flavor combinations. Since bread and beer both use wheat in their recipes (and because we were brainstorming during lunchtime) we immediately thought sandwiches, more specifically a peanut butter and jelly beer flavoring. PB&J IPA anyone?

For the sweets lover, how about infusing beer with cinnamon sticks to create a cinnamon bun flavor? If used with a summer saison, the name could be “Bun in the Sun.” Of course we couldn’t help but wonder if Old Bay could be figured into a mixture somehow…

The winner of the competition must be present at Brew River in order to claim their prize. The flavor champ will get to become a Dogfish Head Honorary Team member for the day, receive a VIP tour for 10 guests, and have their original flavor sampled at the event.

If ShoreBread has learned anything on our beer tour, it’s that anything can be used in beer, from chocolate to coffee to flowers. We encourage you to think outside of the box on your flavor and join us from 4:00-8:00 at Brew River for a celebration of all things beer.
