It’s not often that we see non-profit, charitable organizations making an open-call for people in need, but our friends at Pink Ribbon Pinups have such big hearts that they are on the search for young people battling cancer that could use their assistance.
Pink Ribbon Pinups is a local non-profit that raises money for friends in need, more specifically, friends battling cancer. Founded in 2011 by breast cancer survivor Brandi Mellinger, the Pink Ribbon Pinups have held numerous fundraisers over the past three years, working tirelessly to help ease the burden of the fight against cancer for those undergoing the rigorous battle. According to their Facebook page, “The Pink Ribbon Pinups aim to extract all the stereotypical characteristics of breast cancer groups and instead, toss in elements that are fun, cool and trendy.” Putting the ‘fun’ in fundraising, the Pink Ribbon Pinups hold a variety of events, all with the aim of raising money for deserving individuals in our community.
More recently, you might have seen the Pink Ribbon Pinups efforts in the Love for Bernice Fundraiser, held this past February. Bernice Alejandro-Morales was a local 7-year-old who, at the time, was in the final stages of Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. Sadly, Bernice passed before the Love for Bernice Fundraiser was held but funds were still raised to assist Berenice’s family during such an incredibly difficult and financially taxing time.
The Pink Ribbon Pinups are currently on the search for more young people to help. A recent Facebook post states:
“we know there are many young people out there who are bravely battling cancer, while also facing the unfair combination of physical and emotional pain, daily stress and mounting financial burdens. But we need your help finding these people. There’s nothing we enjoy more than making a life a little easier on those people whose lives were dealt and unfair hand. After all, no one have ever become poor by giving {Anne Frank}”
