De Lazy Lizard Brick Oven Brewery has been serving downtown Ocean City for almost one year, and with the start of their second summer, brew pub team is ready to shake things up in 2014 with brand new specials, menu items, entertainment, and of course, craft beers. We caught up with General Manager Mike Lee this week to discuss all of the exciting new changes happening at the brew pub, including tonight’s Grand Re-Opening.
“This summer we will be taking the brewery to another level, and not only what you see inside, but our distribution as well,” explained Lee. “We are a few weeks away from adding another seven fermenting tanks, as well as other brewing equipment, to our brewery.” Lee went on to emphasize the addition of the brick oven pizza to the restaurant, a feature that will be a focal point of the new menu. “I’m not exaggerating at all when I say that I believe we have the best pizza in town,” added Lee.
The addition of the brick oven pizza oven means a revamped menu, including a large selection of artisan pizzas made with fresh ingredients and homemade sauce and dough. Strombolis are also hot out of the oven and paired with other popular menu items such as wings and fresh, hand-breaded calamari.
Along with a new menu come aesthetic changes. According to Lee, the brewery will be undergoing a facelift both inside and out, including the addition of outdoor deck seating. TVs are strategically placed throughout the bar and restaurant, making for an ideal setting for sports viewing, particularly for this month’s World Cup action.
Of course the real excitement comes from the back end of the restaurant where the magic happens. De Lazy Lizard’s craft beer is brewing daily – on site – with five different beers currently available; blond ale, cooper ale, orange crush ale, single IPA, and double IPA. In addition is an expansive selection of craft beers from across the country, as well as local craft beers. A full bar is also available.
Events are also on the horizon this summer, with the timeliest being tonight’s Grand Opening Party. Locals Garvey Heiderman and Robby Williams will be guest bartending for the event, which will also feature a variety of food and drink specials. The party kicks off tonight, June 16, at 6pm. $5 at the door buys you all-you-can-eat pizza, wings, crab dip and more along with $2 drafts all night. DJ Bigler will be on the scene from 6-10pm with giveaways all night.
