We are having a hard time believing this week is the first “official” first day of fall AND the last weekend of September. How is October next week?! It’s bittersweet – beach days are done and now we will really pull out the sweaters – ohhhh September is such a tease. Our little beach town has a strange way of transitioning… September 29th its 80 and you’re wearing shorts, then the beginning of October hits and it turns to dramatic fall weather, leaves changing colors, and the return of that chilly wind rolling right over the ocean and whipping down the boardwalk. Here at ShoreBread, we’re ready… our hard earned summer tans though, not so much. We may not be able to lie out on the beach in bikinis anymore, but there are still tons of outdoor activities for you to participate in! Oysters, wine, chili, oh my! Kick off the first week of fall right and join in on the festivities.

Seagull Century
September 27th
The most popular cycling competition in the area (and arguably on the entire East Coast) takes place on Saturday, September 27th. Seagull Century welcomes cyclists from across the country to participate in the 100 mile race through the picturesque Eastern Shore. It’s a weekend full of exercise, along with celebrating the City of Salisbury, Salisbury University and the surrounding areas on the Eastern Shore.
The Salisbury’s Zoo’s 60th Anniversary BIG Celebration
September 26th
This is the party of the fall! Free to the public and a big celebration within the community to honor our beloved local zoo, what could be better? The celebration will offer education talks, demonstrations, animal enrichment, face painting, history of the zoo and obviously (our favorite part) cake. A commemorative wristband will be handed to the first couple of hundred people that enter the zoo. The event will start at 4:30PM and go until 7:30PM.
Chincoteague Chili/Chowder Cook off
September 27th
Head to one of our favorite towns for the 2014 Chincoteague Cook off! It will be a great time as it’s another one of the Volunteer Fire Departments events (they do the Chincoteague Pony Swim as well). In addition to the cook off competition (all you do is the tasting!) there will be a car show with the trophies to be awarded at 3PM.
3rd Annual Corn to Run & Harvest Festival
September 27th
We believe that this might be the most perfect event to round out the beautiful September weather! Located in Millsboro at RSC Landscaping, join the fun at 9AM for a 5K run through the crop rotation “Field of Beans” (if not come at 10AM!) and after enjoy 16 Mile beer and brats, hayrides and family friendly games. This event is for all ages so bring all your friends!
Burley Oak Radical Beer Fest (Radical Beer Against The Sterilization of Local Palates Festival)
September 27th
ONLY FOR AGES 21+
2PM-8PM
Oh, just another wonderful event that Burley Oak is putting on… nothing new here! Their main goal for this festival is to provide distinctive beer and promote originality and out-of-the-box thinking. The brewers will be pouring 12 different, one-of-a-kind beers that have never been made and will never be made again. Those who attend the festival will get a 16oz. tasting glass for as many 2oz. samples as they can responsibility consume. In addition to some really great beer, there will be live music, games and local food vendors. We believe one of the best parts about this unique event is that there will be FREE transportation provided to and from Ocean City, West Ocean City and Ocean Pines… How awesome is that, all you have to do is tip the driver. It costs $25.00 to attend but your memories, contribution and experience is priceless.
Take advantage of your last September weekend, y’all! You’ll regret it if you don’t.
