We all grow tired of busy shopping malls from time to time and it’s no secret that we love to support local businesses and artisans. So, during our recent day trip to the charming downtown area of Cambridge, MD we decided to check out the local wares for ourselves.
Our first stop was the Butterfly Boutique, located at 510 Poplar Street. The woman behind the counter was happy to explain all of their locally made products in great detail. There were tables full of locally made soaps, racks of locally made bracelets, and sea glass jewelry made by a local artist from real, locally found pieces of seaglass. We’d be lying if we told you that we didn’t scarf up a few items for ourselves. The shop also sold adorable totes and unique wine glasses – making this shop a one-stop-shop for all your gifting needs.
Next we walked over to Sunnyside. This store contained a plethora of handmade and handpicked items. The walls were lined with print from local artist, Erick Sahler. Many of the items on display were either made by local artisans or were fair trade items made in Nepal and West Africa. The shop also contained a huge selection of clothing, shoes, and handbags. Full disclosure: we couldn’t resist buying a few items here, too!
After all this shopping, we were feeling a little tired. So, we headed over to Black Water Baked Goods, Coffees & Eats for a little liquid fuel: coffee! The display cases were filled with delicacies like cheesecake cookie bombs, jumbo cupcakes, muffins, croissants, and even an assortment of pies and cakes. How on Earth were we supposed to make a decision? Oh, and did we mention Nutella turnovers? Yes, please!
Once we were well caffeinated, we headed over to The Wine Bar. This place, and its owner Randy, we so incredible you’re just going to have to wait for our full article to learn more.
Our final stop was Calista Boutique on Race Street. This boutique had such a calming effect on us when we walked in. The space was very open and airy. Beautiful, flowy blouses lined the walls, bath bombs and other goodies were on display, and they even had a section dedicated to the “Vinrella” – adorable umbrellas in the shape of wine bottles! Calista Boutique even offered tanning bed and spray tan services.
Cambridge truly is a hidden gem for the avid shopper, or even someone just looking for unique, one-of-a-kind gifts for someone special (or yourself, we won’t judge). We highly recommend making a day of it and heading out to Cambridge, with many fun restaurants to choose from, it surely will not disappoint.
