The Royalton Hotel on 11th Street in Ocean City got its start back in 1970 when Carlo DiFilippo purchased the property with a few partners. Fast forward to 1983 and the business became a true family owned business when the property was divided. Today, on the site where the old Royalton Hotel once stood, a new hotel is being constructed. This new property will be known as the Hotel Monte Carlo Oceanfront, named like its sister properties the Hotel Monte Carlo Hotel and Suites. We met co-owners Virginia DiFilippo Cipollone, Clara DiFilippo Ziman, and Carlo DiFilippo Jr. at the construction site to talk about their vision for their new property.

The new hotel will feature 54 guest rooms – most of them suites. The rooms will offer all “the convenience of an apartment,” Virginia told us. 19 of the rooms will be oceanfront with generous balconies to allow guests to dine outside or simply enjoy the stunning views. Standing on the concrete on what will eventually be the second floor, it was easy for us to see how lovely the views will be when the rooms are completed. Another 24 rooms along the sides of the building will have large balconies with ocean views. Some guest rooms will sleep up to 6 people and visitors will even have the option for a king room.

The hotel will also include a rooftop pool and bar, in addition to an indoor pool and hot tub. Virginia boasted, “our rooftop pool will be our best amenity. Guests tend to go to the beach in the morning and then relax by the pool in the afternoon. Since our rooftop pool faces West, guests will have a great view of the sunset.” Clara told us that the style of the new hotel will not be like that of their existing properties. “The style and decor will be beach-inspired, coastal contemporary,” Clara explained.

The owners are still seeking a tenant for the restaurant space on the ground floor of the property and they are hopeful to occupy that space in time for their grand opening.

The hotel is scheduled to open on the 4th of July weekend. Make sure to follow along on Facebook and their website as construction updates will be posted regularly. We can’t wait to see the finished product!
