Summer is here in full force.  How are we going to make sure we’re living right before the summer has passed us by?  That’s where our summer bucket list comes in!  A list of all the little things we want to enjoy on Delmarva before the kids go back to school, the weather turns cool and we’re left dreaming of next summer.

Watch the Solar Eclipse

On Monday, August 21st, there will be a solar eclipse with 81.5% of the sun obscured at 2:46pm. NASA Wallops Flight Facility wants to ensure that people are able to safely observe the eclipse and will have eclipse glasses available at the visitor centers at both the Maryland and Virginia entrances of Assateague.  You can also watch from the Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center where glasses will be provided, solar-themed movies will be shown and activities will be held for children.

Go to a Carnival

We’re never too old to get on rides, eat cotton candy and play the water gun game to win a prize!  There are so many great ones coming up like Chincoteague Fireman’s Carnival (June 23 – July 29), Crisfield’s Crab Derby (September 1 – 3), Delaware State Fair (July 20 – 29) and Hebron Fireman’s Carnival (June 7 – July 15).

Go Camping

With so many great campgrounds on the Eastern Shore, it’s tough to choose just one.  Assateague’s wild horse filled campground is a classic.  The new Chincoteague KOA also has us excited. The serenity at Jane’s Island State Park in Crisfield is intriguing. But then there’s also the beauty of Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes.  Either way, we’re definitely sleeping under the stars this summer!

Get an Old Fashioned Ice Cream Soda

We love the old fashioned ice cream sodas from Dumser’s.  Why did this tasty treat ever go out of style?  We’re definitely grabbing a few before summer’s end.

Try a New Restaurant in Ocean City

There are so many new restaurants in Ocean City this year that we have to try.  Find your favorite on our What’s New in Ocean City for 2017 article.

Visit Lavender Fields

We’ve been dying to visit the lavender fields at Warrington Manor in Milton.  Seeing the beautiful plants and purchasing some of the homemade lavender products will definitely be happening soon.

Watch More Sunrises and Sunsets

One of the great things about Delmarva is that there are so many places to watch the sun rise over the ocean and set over the bay.  Great sunrises can be found at Public Landing in Snow Hill, Isle of Wight Park off Route 90 on your way to Ocean City or any of Delmarva’s beaches.  Sunset colors can be found at many bayside restaurants in Ocean City, at the docks or bay beach in Crisfield, and at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in Cambridge.  There are so many great options we could probably watch from a different location every day this summer.

Go to the Beach

All too often we hear locals say they’ve been so busy all summer, they haven’t made time to go to the beach.  We aren’t having it this year. With so many beaches to choose from, we’re not letting busy event weekends in one town get in our way.
