America Recycles Day is a national program of Keep America Beautiful, and is the only nationally-recognized day and community-driven awareness event dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. Since its inception in 1997, communities across the country have participated in American Recycles day on November 15th to educate, promote environmental citizenship, and encourage action. Locally, businesses and organizations on the Eastern Shore have joined together to help protect our environment and communities.
Those who choose to participate in American Recycles Day will declare to up their recycling regimen from November 15th through the end of the month. The goal of the project is to educate, motivate, and inspire individuals to recycle more while encouraging others to do the same.
“Recycling no only protects the environment, it strengthens the community,” said Matthew McKenna, president of Keep American Beautiful, Inc. “The simple act of recycling creates the impetus for innovation and industry and fosters green jobs… Ultimately, recycling improves a community’s cohesion and impacts the local quality of life.”
