It’s almost 80 degrees in West Ocean City right now and we are more than anxious to get outside this weekend. Spring has sprung and there are signs of a warm season everywhere. It seems that others are excited to get outside, too. Make plans to go on a bike ride, check out the garden center, partake in a luau, get the scoop on some local art, or enjoy a theatrical play.  Happy spring from Shorebread! East Coast Garden Center Tours

The East Coast Garden Center in Millsboro, DE will be hosting garden-related classes all weekend. The center provides gardeners will all the information needed to create and maintain a beautiful yard and garden. The weekend of March 23rd – 25th, the center will be offering fun events for the entire family. On Saturday morning, classes include Everything You Wanted to Know About Ponds, a Yard Sale, and Shurb Production Nursery Tours. See the latest plants on the market and find plenty of garden supplies during the yard sale.

On an Average Day

The Ocean Pines Players, in collaboration with Charles Jeffery Keenan and Brandon Michael Cater, present the theatrical production of On an Average Day, a psychological drama/myster/comedy written by John Kolvenbach. Performances will be offered March 23rd – 25th at the Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club. Curtain is at 8:00 pm on Friday and Saturday evening and 3:00 pm on Sunday. Doors will open to the public one hour prior to performance time. Tickets are $15 and are available by reservation only. To reserve your ticket call 410-208-4707. Complimentary snacks, hors d’oeuvres, and live music will be provided as well as a cash bar. All proceeds will be donated to the Drama Department of Stephen Decatur High School.

The 8 x 10 Art Show, Part 2

Six Eleven Salon & Gallery in West Ocean City will hold an art gallery opening and show on Saturday, March 24th from 6 – 9 pm. The group art show features work from local artists, photographers, and multimedia workers. Several bands will be playing live in the gallery. The show will benefit Punk Rock Fish Studio’s revival. Six Eleven Salon & Gallery hopes to help the independent art scene in the Ocean City area. Donations will be collected at the door. All ages are welcome to attend.

Skip Dixxon’s 10th Annual Spring Luau

Break out your grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts for Skip Dixxon’s 10th Annual Spring Luau. On Saturday, March 24th, the Pour House will be rocking with love bands; The Hooplas, Livin the Dream, Witches Brew, Vivid Season, Dust ‘N Bones, Petting Hendrix, Bride Dressed in Black, Hightest, Drink Drank Drunk, Phantom Limbs, Loud Love, and more. This even is free. Children are welcome from 4 – 9 pm, over 21 after 9 pm. The event is supporting the Townsend family who recently lost a loved one, Nick Townsend, in a tragic canoeing accident on the Assawoman Bay. Donations will be accepted at the luau.

Take a Kid Biking Day

The Eastern Shore Mountain Biking Association is holding a Take A Kid Biking event on Sunday, march 25th. The day of bike riding takes place at the Lower Shore YMCA. Even if you don’t have any kids, this event brings out the kid in everyone. The trail is designed for fitness and fun and rea made to get beginners on bikes and into the woods. Participants will need a helmet and a bike. It is recommended that you brings snacks and water. Trail direction will be provided as well as tools and mechanics in case there are any bike issues. All guests can participate in bike riding on Take a Kid Biking Day from 12 – 3 pm. A $5 donation for participants will be given to the local YMCA.
