There is absolutely nothing happening in Delmarva this weekend. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Nothing. April Fools! Socially speaking, it seems as though there are lots of fun things to participate in this weekend. Here are a few Shorebread suggestions…
The East Coast Garden Center in Milford, DE will be hosting a Tai Chi and Qigong class in their gardens. The event is hosted by Jim Mace and will start on March 30th at 10 am and end at 11:30 am. Participants are encouraged to experience the almost magic-like benefits as they get their energy flowing. The gentle and easy movements provide better health, well-being, and balance. Other classes will be offered in upcoming weeks. The class price is $50 for 6 weeks or $10 per session. The Garden Center is open for tours on Saturday from 8 am – 5 pm and Sunday from 10 am – 4 pm.
A fashion show and luncheon, known as Birds & Blooms, will take place at the Berlin Fire Hall in historic Berlin, MD on March 30th. Tickets are $25 each. Fashions from Bruder Hill, Crazy Ladyz!, and Women’s Health Boutique will be modeled. The show starts at 11:30 am and commences at 4:30 pm. The event benefits Women Supporting Women’s Worcester County Chapter. Lunch is provided by the Berlin Fire Company Auxiliary and includes fried chicken, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, salad, rolls, desserts, and beverages. A silent and Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle will be held.
The Julia A. Purnell Museum will be offering free admission for local residents on the first Saturday of the month. Visitors can view the temporary exhibit of Negro League memorabilia, including autographed baseball cards, antique baseball equipment, and artifacts related to greats such as Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson and William “Judy” Johnson, who was born in Snow Hill. The museum is open on April 3rd from 10 am – 4 pm. Locals free days are celebrated the first Saturday of each new month.
Fager’s Island will be hosting an event known as BrewGrass on Saturday, March 31st. From 1 – 5 pm. Several breweries will be sampling their beers. Breweries include Burley Oak, Dogfish Head, Clipper City, Fordham Brewing Co., Evolution Craft Brewing Co., and Flying Dog. Each brewery from Berlin, Milton, Baltimore, Dover, Salisbury, and Frederick will be offering their seasonal ales. All-you-can-eat southern-style BBQ and all you can drink select beverages are included in the $40 admission charge at the door. Live music will be played by local bluegrass bands Chester River Runoff and the Saltwater String Band. This is a 21+ event.
On April Fools Day, the 18th Annual Adventure Run/Walk will take place at Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, DE. The April Fools Day Run takes participants on a beautiful 3-6 mile journey through the park. A 1 – 2 mile walk is another option. There are plenty of unique surfaces that will challenge walkers and runners. The challenging course is a lot of fun and a great workout. Registration is $25 per person on the day of the event from 9 – 9:50 am. Duffle bags will be given to the first 100 folks registered. Water and some refreshments will be provided. Those interested in completing the race should meet at the fishing pier in the park on April 1st.
