It’s the kind of quintessential small town experience that might be found in a classic film. Fitting, as Berlin, MD has been chosen as the location for several major motion pictures over the years.

This weekend, little girls will parade down Main Street, adorned with Easter bonnets of all shapes and sizes. Some will be made with “found” objects from nature, others with colorful eggs, flowers, ribbons, and bows. The little mavens will line up in front of the grandstand and wait in anticipation as judges determine who has created the most artistic bonnet in several categories. This year, mini mad-hatters can participate, too.

The Grand Finale Easter Bonnet and Mad Hatter Parade is just one of the many stand-out events taking place all over Berlin, MD Saturday, April 7th. The day kicks off with a pancake breakfast with the Easter Bunny as the guest of honor at Rayne’s Reef. Three seatings are available—8 a.m., 9a.m., and 10 a.m.; children are $6, adults are $8, and reservations are required. At 11:30 a.m., the lawn of the Taylor House Museum transforms into arena for an Eggstravaganza. Children ages 2-10 can participate in a free egg hunt. At 2:00 p.m. children can showcase their fondness for cupcakes by participating in “Mini’s in a Minute,” a cupcake eating contest sponsored by Cupcakes in Bloom.

Throughout the day, horse and carriage rides amidst the historic little town, and guided pony rides by Endeavor farms—both for a small fee—add to the quaint ambiance. Local photographer Kimberly Tucker will be available to capture special moments, also for a fee.

Arts and culture abound in Berlin, MD and the Worcester County Arts Council will be on hand with a free workshop to spark interest in budding artisans with an Easter Workshop beginning at 9:00 a.m. Other educational activities, sponsored by the Worcester 4H Club and Berlin Parks and Recreation will take place throughout the day.

Also adding to the festive atmosphere—music by local musician Troy Mawyer, bunny hop dancing by Seaside Dance Academy, face painting, and a chance to win many fantastic prizes at a Chinese auction. To further the children’s delight, Jolly Roger Amusements brings many of their favorite rides into town, (in the municipal lot across from Cupcakes in Bloom).

The 17th Annual Spring Celebration is a community and family-oriented event appropriate for all ages. Beginning Saturday April 7th with the Easter Bunny Pancake Breakfast, and commencing around 4 p.m. Sponsored by Barrett Chevrolet, the Berlin Coffee House, and Bruder Hill.  Additional information can be found at the Berlin, MD Chamber of Commerce website.
