The Eastern Shore is the place to be this weekend. With the cooler temperatures this week, it seems as though everyone is anxious about getting outside, enjoying the summertime, and relaxing in the shade or by the ocean. Socially speaking, hanging out and relaxing shouldn't be a problem at all. Berlin, Ocean City, and Milton have many family-friendly events taking place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Bathtub Races
For 23 years, local businesses have been turning ordinary bathtubs into speeding pieces of art. The event takes place during Berlin’s 2nd Friday Art Stroll, a monthly event that takes place downtown. Businesses throughout Berlin plan to keep their doors open until 8 pm on Friday. The Berlin Chamber of Commerce conducts the race while local businesses Sponsor individual heats. The Church Mouse Thrift Store, Sisters, Shoreline Tile & Marble, D3 Corp, Cupcakes in Bloom, Berlin Coffee House, and Main Street Berlin are heat sponsors. The competitive event is open to anyone who would like to enter. Area businesses are encouraged to participate. Businesses may use their vehicles to advertise. Past champions include last year’s winners, Ayres Creek Adventures/Baked Dessert Café & Gallery, Peninsula Bank, Sassafras Station, Barrett Chevrolet, Bath Fitter, and the Berlin Shoe Box. The event begins at 5 pm, races start at 6:15 pm.
Little Dresses for Africa
During Berlin’s 2nd Friday Art Stroll, Go Organic Grocer will have finished pillowcase dresses on display. All dresses were made by local women and will be delivered to children in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Dresses can be purchased for $10 and proceeds will be used to purchase supplies to make more dresses as well as cover shipping costs. Call the Grocer at 443-513-4255 for more information.
Milton Garden & Home Tour
Enjoy a self-guided tour of 7 beautiful private gardens, 2 public gardens, and 2 lovely homes open for viewing during the 13th Annual Garden and Home Tour in Milton, DE. The tour is presented by the Milton Garden Club. Tickets are $15 on the day of the tour. The tour takes place on Saturday, July 14th, from 9 am – 3 pm. Those attending the tour should meet at the Milton Garden Club Tent at the Lydia B. Cannon Museum on Union Street in Milton.
Ocean City Tuna Tournament
The 25th Annual Ocean City Tuna Tournament commences this weekend. Fish weigh-ins take place July 13th – 15th at the Ocean City Fishing Center. On Friday and Saturday, from 4 – 7:30 pm, the fishing center will be lined with boats unloading the fish caught earlier that day. All fish from all 3 days of the tournament will be weighed the fishing center. Stringer fish only will be weighed at Sunset Marina in West Ocean City.
Movies on the Beach
Families in Ocean City on Saturday can sit back, relax, and watch a movie on the beach. Free movies, projected on a big-screen, take place Oceanside on 27th Street in OC during the summer months. On Friday, July 6th, the movie Kung Fu Panda 2 will be screened. Beach movies are weather-permitting and will be canceled if bad weather occurs.
Sundaes in the Park
Have a sundae this Sunday in Ocean City. Bring the family, a chair, or blanket and enjoy an after dinner treat. Free local and regional musical groups will perform. From 7 – 9 pm, guests can create their own ice cream sundae for a small fee. Free family concerts are offered every Sunday evening in July and August. Sundaes in the Park take place in Northside Park, 127th Street, bayside in Ocean City.
Beach Lights Spectacular
OC Beach Lights presents a Beach Lights Spectacular on Sunday, July 8th. The free laser lights show will be displayed on a giant five-story beach ball and is choreographed to music. Three shows will take place: 9:30, 10, and 10:30 pm. The show will be lighting up the beach at North Division Street in Ocean City three times every Sunday night through Labor Day Weekend.
