On any given night, live music can be found at any number of bars, restaurants and venues across the Shore, with almost too many acts to keep track of. In this week’s Spotlight on Fun, we’re offering up a preview of some of the live music and entertainment for the upcoming weekend. From solo acoustic acts to local fundraising concerts, head out on the town for some of the best beats on the Shore….
Because we love a good cause, we’ll start with the Jam for Sam Benefit Concert, happening this Friday at Seacrets. The concert is held each year, in an effort to raise funds for the Sammy Wilkinson Memorial Foundation. The foundation was established in 2004, in honor of Sammy, who passed away in a tragic accident the prior year. The goal of the foundation is to bring sports to thousands of children in under-served communities worldwide. Each year, following the annual golf tournament, the Jam for Sam benefit party takes place at Seacrets. The party, which is $20 per ticket, includes food, discounted drinks, door prizes, a silent auction, and live music. Musical guests this year include local bands, Hot Sauce Sandwich and Opposite Directions. The event lasts from 5 to 9pm.
Also included in the line-up this Friday at Seacrets are the Jim Long Band, The Movement, and Steal the Sky.
If you’re roaming around downtown Ocean City Friday evening, why not head to M.R. Ducks. While opting in (or out) of a Chug-a-Duck, enjoy the Bo Dickerson Band, playing outside on the deck from 4 to 9pm. Slightly further uptown, local surf rock band The Phantom Limbs will be raging at Pepper’s Tavern on 16th Street. Joining them are Whiskey and the Kidney Stones. The show kicks off at 10pm.
If you’re looking for live music in uptown Ocean City, Jive offers live music all weekend long. At Jive, located on 83rd Street and the bay, Bryan Clark kicks off the weekend Friday night, followed by 2 much stuff with Joe Smooth on Saturday. Music runs from 8pm to 12am both nights. If you’re with a group, we suggest trying to “Build Your Own Bellini.” Servers provide you with a bottle of chilled prosecco, a variety of fruit purees, champagne flutes, and you do the rest. Not a bad way to spend your Friday night.
In Delaware, two of our favorite bars, The Starboard in Dewey Beach and Dogfish Head in Rehoboth Beach, are both featuring live bands. It seems that every time we turn around, The Starboard is throwing some sort of epic party, from The Running of the Bulls to the ‘Stache Weekend. This weekend is no different, as The Starboard celebrates Christmas in July, all afternoon on Saturday. Rudolph’s Revenge will include drink specials, games, prizes, and live music from Scott’s New Band. Later that night, lose the Santa gear and head to Rehoboth. At Dogfish Head, the local beer on tap and the consistently delicious food are a perfect match for Eastern Electric, playing from 10 to 2pm.
The list of summer concerts, festivals, and live music offerings this weekend goes on and on. Pick a few from above, stumble across a new find, or seek out your personal favorites.
Until next time…
