Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. For some of us that means romantic dinners, chocolates or roses, for others, its another holiday where we are laboriously tasked with buying and giving gifts of some sort. No matter your outlook on the national day of love, Valentine’s Day is a perfect excuse to do some crafting. Thanks to our crafty friends at Causes of the Heart, we are presenting you with a user-friendly DIY Valentine’s Day project to work on solo or with the kids…because let’s face it, its freezing out and we seriously need some innovative indoor activities to revel in.

For heartfelt, handcrafted cards, we consistently turn to Causes of the Heart, so when we were looking for a craft project using card stock, of course we knew who to turn to for a tutorial. After sharing with us a fabulous find from Split Coast Stampers, Causes of the Heart was kind enough to take us through the step by step process for making these adorable french fry box candy holders. The result is a perfect and affordable gift for your child’s teacher or even for a co-worker.

Supplies:

  • Glue (any kind) or double sided tape
  • Card stock/scrapbook paper
  • Scissors
  • Template
  • Ruler
  • Stickers
  • Sting/ribbon
  • Doilies

Instructions:

  1. Gather your supplies. The first five items are mandatory to the project. When selecting your card stock, look for Valentine’s Day colors and patterns. The last three items on the supply list are optional, depending on how much decorating you choose to do to your fry box. DSC_2340-edited
  2. Take your template (which can be printed from here) and cut it out with scissors. Trace your template on the card stock of your choice and cut it out. (Hint: make sure the pattern that you want on the outside of your fry box is face down). DSC_2346-edited
  3. Use a ruler to crease and fold your card stock along the sides. Line the ruler up with the base of the bottom portion of the inner cut-out and fold. DSC_2349-edited
  4. Once the folds are complete, fold the card stock together into a fry box. Use glue or double-sided tape to hold the pieces in place. DSC_2351-edited
  5. Decorate! This is the fun part, use stickers, markers, string, ribbon, doilies or whatever you choose to spiff up your fry box. DSC_2352-edited
  6. Stuff with goodies. We chose heart-shaped dark chocolate for our filling, but we suggest stuffing your french fry box with your recipients favorite candy. Enjoy! DSC_2359-edited
