The juicing craze has swept across the entire country, particularly in larger cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Vegas and Miami… but we’ve found the cutest little juice bar in all the land. And the best part is you don’t have to take a plane to get to it! It’s right in the adorable town of Ocean View, Delaware.
We happened upon JuiceBox by accident, (we’re not complaining) as we were riding back from Lewes feeling hungry and a little tired from our afternoon in historic downtown. We turned off Route 1 onto Route 26 and about a mile and a half down hit the jackpot. You can’t miss the cute building directly on your right as it draws you in with its colorful logo and picnic tables out front. With plenty of parking and fresh produce surrounding the building, you can’t help but stop to see what this little place is all about.
When you walk in, you’re hit with the smell of fresh fruit, bright windows, the friendliest employees and fresh wheatgrass. As juice newbies, we were a little apprehensive as to what to order but the JuiceBox staff helped us immensely, offering a helpful crash course in all of the ingredients, keying us in on what would taste good together and their most popular items on the menu. Already in their 3rd summer, they must be doing something right.
One of our favorite parts about the menu? They offer SO much more than just juices and smoothies… their menu is complete with full breakfast and lunch options, making it ideal for any time of the day. The most popular juice item on the menu though… the Popeyes Punch, which consists of kale, spinach, fennel, apple, celery, lemon and ginger. We can attest to its deliciousness! It made the perfect afternoon pick-us-up. We were also lucky enough to get a taste of freshly juiced watermelon… which is pretty amazing.
According to the staff, the most popular lunch sandwich is the ‘Boyfriend’. The sandwich can come on potato bread, multi-grain, marble or a spinach wrap filled to the brim with turkey, bacon, L, T, O, avocado, sprouts and mayo… a.k.a. the perfect “takeout” beach lunch. For the creative juicer, there’s even the option to create your own concoction. If it’s in season, and if JuiceBox has it, they will juice it for you! Our tasty homemade concoction consisted of watermelon, spinach, lemon, beet and apples. The JuiceBox also offers wheatgrass shots, which offers HUGE health benefits when juiced. It’s secretly known as “nature’s finest medicine.”
Next time we are up that way we are dying to try their “Hangover Helper” smoothie… made with cucumber, kale, ginger, pineapple, banana and coconut water. In addition to JuiceBox’s already extensive menu, they proudly serve organically grown, popular Zekes Coffee that originates from Baltimore, as well as a full espresso bar, homemade pastries and cookies, bagels, gluten free/vegan snacks and fresh, homegrown produce from local stands.
JuiceBox is open through Thanksgiving before closing for the season so make sure you stop in soon. They welcome fall with specials centering on the freshest in-season produce. (We’re hoping to see a pumpkin spice smoothie!)
