Well folks, summer is officially over, as September 23 marks the first day of autumn. We are always sad to see summer come to an end, but we quickly find solace in the fact that fall is a fantastic time of year for exploring Delmarva. We’ve waxed poetic already about our love for the shoulder season at the beach, and truth be told, we will continue to do so as we move into the fall season. Fall isn’t just fabulous at the beach though, from St. Michaels on down to Lewes and everywhere in between, fall festivities abound and we can’t wait to revel in them all. First up? This weekend’s lineup of activities of course:

Sand Castle Home Tour

When: Homes will be available for viewing on Thursday, September 24 and Friday, September 25, from 9:30am until 4pm.

Where: This year’s route features never before seen homes in Ocean City, Ocean Pines, Lighthouse Sound, and West Ocean City. Tour books are available at these locations: Robin Walter Salon, Monkey’s Trunk, Casual Designs, and the Ocean City Center for the Arts.

What: Held each September, the Sand Castle Home Tour is a self-guided tour featuring 11 beautiful homes in the Ocean City area. This year’s tour includes a great variety of homes, from oceanfront to bayside, family homes to penthouses and beach retreats. Home Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased at the Ocean City Center for the Arts on 94th Street in Ocean City, by calling 410-524-9433, or online by clicking here. What’s more, by purchasing your ticket, you will be supporting the Art League of Ocean City and the local arts.

36th Annual Sunfest Kite Festival

When: September 24-27

Where: The Kite Loft, Ocean City

What: The entire family will enjoy the annual Kite Festival in OCMD, which includes five full days of kite competitions, games, relays, mass ascensions, workshops and fun. We’ve got our eye on the Giant Kite Air Show, which typically includes an awe-inspiring display of massive kites all day long, for each day of the event. The team and individual demos provide a unique chance to learn more about kite flying. For the kids, plan on attending the Kids Day Kite Fly, Saturday at 1pm. Free kites will be given to the first 100 kids between the ages of 5 and 12. Visit www.kiteloft.com for the full schedule.

Sunfest

When: September 24-27

Where: Inlet Parking Lot, Ocean City

What: Sunfest marks the official end of summer for us in OCMD, with a summer sendoff featuring food, crafts, hayrides, kid’s activities, and musical entertainment. This year’s headlining acts are Tony Orlando (Thursday), Wynonna Judd & the Big Noise (Friday) and the Gin Blossoms & The Spin Doctors (Saturday).

Pocomoketoberfest

When: Saturday, September 26, 2-8pm

Where: Cypress Park, Pocomoke City

What: The annual beer and wine festival features a wide array of Eastern Shore beers and wines, along with free tastings, a commemorative glass, great food and live music. BLOC Party – Berlin Library, Our Community

When: Saturday, September 26, 2-6pm

Where: Harrison Avenue (behind the library, next to the Waystead Inn), Belin

What: It’s time for another fun-filled throw-down in Berlin! The Berlin branch of the Worcester County library invites you to join them as they kick off their fundraising campaign for a new branch library. Pony rides, face painting, raffles, games, and a moon bounce are just a few of the kid’s events on tap, along with music by the WWIIunes. What’s more, this is a FREE event. Rain date is scheduled for September 27.

6th Annual Layton’s Chance Harvest Festival

When: Saturday, September 26, 11am-5pm

Where: Layton’s Chance Vineyard, Vienna, MD

What: Grape stomping, hay rides, a fishing derby, tours, live music, vendors and plenty of wine await you for the 6th Annual Harvest Festival at Layton’s Chance! Tickets are $5 per person.

3rd Wave Brewing Co. Anniversary Part

When: Saturday, Septembe 26

Where: 3rd Wave Brewing, Delmar

What: 3rd Wave is celebrating its third birthday this weekend with live music, awesome food, great beer, and plenty of friends. We are excited to announce that we will be interviewing the 3rd Wave team for a feature article (stay tuned!) on Thursday, with plans to stop in for the anniversary celebration as well. Looking forward to learning more about the Delmar-based brewery!

Lower Shore Land Trust Conservation Day

When: Saturday, September 26, 2-5pm

Where: Ayers Creek Adventures, Berlin

What: Our friends at the LSLT are hosting their 5th Annual Conservation Day, an event that aims to honor the Lower Shore Land Trust’s volunteers and land protection efforts. Tickets are $25 and include a crab feast with fried chicken, guided kayak tours, water themed scavenger hunt, SUP, and outdoor fun for the whole family. Arts for the Animals

When: Monday, September 28, 6-9pm

Where: Burley Oak Brewing Company, Berlin

What: Burley Oak’s ‘fundraiser Mondays’ continue with an event for the Worcester County Humane Society. Hosted by artist of the month Alex Ottenstein, the evening will feature silent art auctions along with live music by Kaleb Brown and Bad Since Breakfast. Good beer, good tunes, good art…all for a good cause!
